I felt it was realistic enough for me to enjoy but still fantastical enough for me to not feel stressed about irl issues. (I already know things are terrible. Go beyond that.) I think the dry humor in the story and characters really helped.
I loved the two leads! Halyard is sooo pathetic it's awesome. And Resaint is so weird I love her.
The world building is interesting but often times it is just dumped on you which made this book take a while for me to finish. It felt like an overload of info at times. This gets easier to manage like 40% in.
The epilogues are great and it sparked my interest in the story much like how Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep did. You really feel like you are being pulled in for the ride and made to think about what you are reading. I'm still kinda thinking about the endings.
Graphic: Animal cruelty, Animal death, Cursing, Death, Eating disorder, Gore, Mental illness, Self harm, Suicidal thoughts, Suicide, and Suicide attempt
Moderate: Sexual content, Alcohol, and Injury/Injury detail
Minor: Addiction, Xenophobia, Kidnapping, and War

This was a strange book, and it weirdly made me love it. It's a near-future sci-fi story about the extinction industry and capitalism told in a darkly comedic way. It reminded me a lot of Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut.
What I think really made me like this book is the narrator, John Hastings. His rendition of Mark Halyard so absurdly matched the character Steve from the TBS series Wrecked that I was highly entertained by the whole thing. The narrator's voices for women weren't that great, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
Venmous Lumpsucker is strange, and yet highly plausible. And it made me want to check out more from Ned Beauman.
Moderate: Suicidal thoughts
Minor: Death, Drug use, Suicide, and Injury/Injury detail
