I will be recommending this book to everyone for a long time. Aubrey Gordon is incredibly well researched and well spoken and this book serves as an incredible introductory textbook to social justice and anti-fatness. This should be a required read for everyone!!!!

A staple book for anyone on their journey in fat-activism and should be required reading for medical professionals, fitness professionals, airline management, and educators. I love Gordon’s personal story telling mixed with statistical research and social examples. It is a long, sometimes clinical, and a lot of information at one time. I found that the audiobook was the way to go to keep my interest. This book would also be good reading as separate chapters (small chunks). Please sit in the discomfort of reflection pertaining to how you treat the fat people in your life.

If you like Maintenance Phase, the audiobook is like an extended version of the podcast. It’s great to hear Aubrey read it.

This book is a good primer for beginning fat activism, and is told in an easy-to-understand way. I’m a nutshell, body size cannot be changed and therefore people should respect fat people.

I did feel one part was taken out of context, though I haven’t read the study Aubrey cites. She mentions that there are more searches for fat porn than skinny porn, and I can’t help but be like, yeah of course! Because skinny is the norm in pornography, so why search for it? Other than that I felt the book was very nuanced.

I like this book, but it is a fairly beginner primer. I think using it as a reference would’ve worked better than listening all the way through
