Holy shit! Was a surprisingly amazing book. I downloaded it to waste time when I went to a class 30 mins early but was so pleasantly surprised. The characters were really relatable and funny, it squeezed my heart in both happy and sad ways and had many fun twists and turns. Please give this book a shot!!

With the help of some classic rom-com tropes, Gretchen Wilder explores a different side of herself that she can’t seem to let show in front of those she knows and loves. Our teenage protagonist stumbles into the role of amateur comedian on a night out at a 21 and older club with her older sister and cousin. With the help of a fake ID, she steps into her alter ego known as Sabrina Martin. Because of this, she has to hide “Sabrina” from everyone who knows her as she prepares for a contest that could get her recognized by her stand up icon.

I really enjoyed this book! The pacing was great and the writing was easy to follow. The author did a fantastic job weaving in all of the fun rom-com tropes we know and love into one story about a girl discovering herself

*I received this book as an arc thanks to Netgalley and the publisher. This is an honest review.*

So for a YA book, this was surprisingly good. (I only say that because I've read a string of... annoying ones...)

I've not read any fiction books about comedians, so the whole idea was a breath of fresh air. And I could kind of relate to Gretchen. Going to places where there are a lot of people give me anxiety, and sometimes I do think it would be nice to be able to... Not be myself for a while?

SpoilerI am thrilled that she ended up with the person that ended up with. Some reviews I've seen since actually finished this book are like: whaaat? why him? There's no build up or anything!

But.... Ummmm... Excuse me? He was a better friend to her than her supposed best fried was. AND DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED ON JEREMY. I don't know what it was, but he was not my favorite person from the beginning...I was rooting for Ethan from the get go.

It was nice watching Gretchen grow and learn more about herself, and actually finally talk to her family about how she was feeling. And her parents were actually pretty supportive of her once the communication channels were finally open and flowing.

10 out of 10 recommend.

Audio ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

Wow, The Girl Least Likely. Did Katy Loutzenhiser hop inside my brain and bring all of my high school memories, and fantasies to life? Yes, she must have.

The book focuses on Gretchen an easily loveable girl who just hasn’t found her place yet. She is the youngest of three which I don’t totally understand being an only child but I get the impression she’s on the outside looking in a lot. Then she finds stand up and it’s just perfect for her, even in the case of stolen identity.

There are plenty of teenage moments that will bring you back to your own memories to either cringe or laugh along with. It was also really nice to have a YA novel where our lead isn’t just obsessed with sex the romance was there but so were the genuine relationships Gretchen has, builds, and forms through the book overall.
Overall, it’s a great coming of age story that thinks out of the box in regards to the typical YA romance genre and truly allows the character development that many of these stories can be lacking.

This funny rom-com kept me guessing! What will happen with the best friend who is going away to school? What will happen with the guy who thinks she is a different person? What will happen with the stand-up comedy gig? Read the book to find out! 4.5/5 stars.
