Wow - What a powerful little book! This is a short read about Chris, the friend of Auggie, the key character from the book [b:Wonder|23302416|Wonder|R.J. Palacio|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1412358842s/23302416.jpg|16319487]. I've not yet read Wonder (but I took it out from the library today) so I didn't know any of the back story, the characters, how the writer writes etc. I went into this read blind, despite it being part of a fairly famous series of books.

The audience, I presume, is YA or older pre-teen children but this book appealed to me as an adult. A lot of YA I find very hard to read but this was written in a really fun, accessible style, and I could imagine the character speaking. It covers some quite interesting topics including what friendships mean and how they can be tested, divorce and families, and hospitals and operations ( and I was pleased to see, from a personal perspective, it covered crano-facial surgery).

I received this book courtesy of the publisher and Netgalley, in exchange for an honest review, and I'm really glad I asked for it. Like I said, Wonder is next on my reading list.

el libro que nadie pidió. aunque es claro para cualquiera que los libros de julián y charlotte son para hacer marketing, este se va al pasto, sigue teniendo un estilo de escritura impecable, pero el concepto no es bueno

A pleasant, easy but unremarkable read. "Wonder" was such a beautiful book my expectations were too high.

Palacio lo sigue consiguiendo y a través de todos sus libros nos deja ver la personalidad y el entramado de cada uno de sus personajes.

This story takes place in one day with flashbacks in between. Chris and Auggie were bound to be friends before they were even born. Only three months apart, they have their first meeting and playdate and continues on until they are older. Unlike some of the friends Auggie had, Chris and him stay besties. Sure Chris notices the stares his best friend gets but that doesn't make him like him less. Now in 5th grade Auggie and Chris's friendship is tested to see if childhood friendship can really test the test of time.

I was not the biggest fan of this. I LOVED Wonder, one of my favorite books I read last year (2014). When I read The Julian Chapter earlier on this year I thought it was good to get a glimpse into the child's life that was made the antagonist. Chris was hardly mentioned in Wonder so I thought how fun would it be to hear/see what August's best friend thought of him. I'm hoping Palacio is not milking the cow 'till it's dry. There is only so much you can do with one storyline until people get tired of it. To my knowledge, there will be another "chapter"/book about Charlotte, the girl who showed Auggie around school before it began. She was a very minor character in my opinion. Next we'll get the adults like Auggie's parents and the principal, then after that Chris's and Jack WIll's parents.
