Bowie cambió por completo mi vida cuando lo conocí.
Creo que no hay mejor homenaje y no hay biografía mejor contada, que ésta que a través del sentimiento y las emociones lora conectar con nosotros los lectores.
Me encanta el tono intimo que tiene y que nos hace sentir en una charla con el mismo Bowie. Está demás explicar que las ilustraciones son una obra de arte y que dan ganas de tenerlas todas en un formato que permita colgarlas en la pared.
Es un libro que resalta las etapas y sucesos más importantes del música sin ocultar nada, nos lleva a lo más profundo y permite que entendamos cómo logró transformarse a si mismo sin dejar de ser él.

Ever since I read Hesse's Graphic Novel Frida Kahlo: A biography I've been anxiously awaiting her next book and here it is!
As I said in my review of Kahlo, Hesse once again features the "life, loves, passions and pain" of her latest subject, David Bowie.
By mixing "passages of Bowie's real life with fantastical elements" Hesse relates his story in first person form starting with his arrival to earth as David Robert Haywood Jones. Over the years he transformed into many different personas and similar to many rock stars of the late 20th century, wrestled with the same demons that seemed to be the norm at that time.
The read and visuals of this book shed light on an artist who truly chose to delve into new areas of his craft with every album and with every concert tour.
With the aid of the Discography Hesse includes at the books conclusion, I'll certainly be revisiting Bowie's iconic works with a new perspective.

Jako fan Davida Bowiego nie jestem raczej zbyt obiektywny, starałem się jednak podejść do tej książki bardziej krytycznie. Jest świetnie wydana, ma przepiękne ilustracje, sam pomysł na przedstawienie biografii Davida w ten sposób jest obłędny i sprawił, że pomimo znajomości większości faktów tam przedstawionych, książka wciąż wciąga i ciężko się od niej oderwać. Z drugiej strony jednak, życie Bowiego było tak ciekawe i bogate, że trudno jest zawrzeć wszystko w takiej formie w mniej niż 200 stronach. Wymagało to pójścia na pewne kompromisy i skróty, które oczywiście rozumiem i mi nie przeszkadzają, ale nie mogę udawać, że ich nie zauważyłem. Mimo to jednak polecam bardzo cieplutko, bo to wyjątkowo piękna rzecz o wyjątkowo pięknym człowieku.

I’m not sure exactly how to feel about this read. It markets itself as a blend of fact and fiction but seems to not get into much detail with the less than glowing facts and areas that are a bit more murky.
For example Wanda Nichols, a woman who accused him of rape is brought up and quickly glossed over and dismissed and an additional allegation of him sleeping with an underage fan is not discussed.
I didn’t know about these facts about Bowie prior to this read but I think it’s important for books like this to wrestle with complicated historical figures who may have had immense impact but not always in a completely positive light.
