Fae hunger games with a blade-wielding heroine and a sunshine bat boy. The last 5 chapters or so were…intense. You definitely feel for our FMC and feel as thrown as she was too. The VA for this audiobook did a wonderful job though, which definitely made me like this story even more. I think the difficulty I had with this is that our MMC asks for truths a lot and yet only provides half-truths in return. I’m really not sure how I feel about him tbh.

Magical competition vampire political fantasy? Yes. Yes, please. 

I feel like the worldbuilding was a little messy, and I didn’t know the difference between the vampire families until halfway through the book. The conflict between the two Nightborn clans was also confusing because we never really know what it’s about. However, the end of the book suddenly spits out a lot of worldbuilding and twists rapid fire and I had to reread some chapters to make sure I got it.

The book isn’t the most unique, but it filled the void of new adult fantasy for me. I needed a nice fantasy read to forget about the world and this provides one. This book will hook you from the first page. 

I loved our main character. She was easy to root for and her motivations are very understandable. The love interest and the best friend were also good characters. It’s not a super character-heavy book which I liked. It didn’t try to bog you down with several characters that appear for a line and are never heard from again. 

Overall a good fantasy competition book. Would recommend especially if you're looking for new adult fantasy on Kindle Unlimited.

flashback to the main character getting assaulted by a lover started consensually but then the vampire lover got "bloodlust" and started to bite her. Brief flashback however it is a bit more than just a mention

War and Genocide

book takes place in the middle of a war.

Sexual Content: Chapter 38 and 44 Chapter 38 they share blood and nothing technically happens but they both are really really horny. Nothing plot wise happens

but they do have their first kiss.

This has a lot of potential but I don't think it quite reaches that. The story is good but it needs more editing in my opinion. 
There needed to be more world building to help us understand why the Nightborns are at war, why does this tournament exist and so many other details. The author uses world specific phrases and terms but never explains them. 
The twists and turns are interesting and I like the romance. There is mystery, and since we only know as much as Oraya information is revealed in pieces keeping you engaged. Raihn is a great love interest with all the banter. (I knew who he was supposed to be so early on though.)
I will read the second book but I am hoping for more.

I genuinely am gobsmacked and baffled with the rollercoaster this book sent me on. After reading I genuinely don’t know what is going to happen and I’m worried. 

those last five chapters really had me staring at my wall. RAIHNS BETRAYAL AND VINCENTS DEATH AND ORAYA MAY ACTUALLY BE HALF VAMPIRE???
