This would have been a much better book without the inclusion of that weird shadow character. It felt a little silly or needed more explaining to work but other than that a good read.

Mrs. Anderson is a sort of blink-and-you'll-miss-it character. We discover she is deaf through her son Danny's confession to Hannah, who had knocked on the door and yelled for Mrs. Anderson, who did not hear any of that. She had been deafened by a bilateral inner ear infection a couple years ago, and she is embarrassed by her deafness. Mrs. Anderson hides her deafness so as not to be pitied, and she can apparently pass as hearing through lipreading—an incredible feat for a totally deaf person who has only been deaf for a couple of years. Incredible, as in it, doesn't add up.

Later, Mrs. Anderson has the voice control to ask something softly and she is able to communicate with paramedics with no indication of trouble. She can read her son’s lips perfectly, even realizing that the name he’s saying is Hannah and not Anna. Odd.

Not much else to say here. Definitely could have been better, but it's not the worst I've seen.

Just listening to a fun childhood favorite on scribd while hanging out at the beach. I recently watched @gavgav7 rate all his favorites.

I wasn’t too keen on this book. The story was fairly predictable which I don’t mind cause it’s part of them charm of Goosebumps as an adult. However, the weird ghost thing just was a bit like... what?! And I didn’t like it.

“How come I’ve never seen you before?”

Hannah Fairchild wants to know how and why she has never noticed her next door neighbor Danny Anderson before now?! How did she and her entire family not see the moving truck arrive, or notice when the house was sold? How does he seem to disappear and reappear right before her eyes? How does she not know any of his friends and he doesn’t know any of hers even though they’re in the same grade???? So strange….it’s as almost if he’s a ghost!!!

We completely devoured this (audio) book so fast. It feels like an adult thriller novel smashed and hacked down to size to be a kids horror story and honestly, this one would have made an amazing adult horror/mystery in my humble opinion.

I was not expecting the plot twist AT ALL and the ending was tender and heartfelt.

**Reader Beware, Spoilers Ahead**

The entire book had me confused (and a tad bored) up until the plot twist was revealed and then everything finally made sense!! I still don’t understand the need for the amount of dialogue between the 3 boys after the ice cream incident except to maybe highlight how Hannah is spying on life moments? I think next time I want to physically read this one while listening to better pick up on the plot, now that I know what’s happening!

My only problem really lies with the shadow figure. I felt as if that could have been explored so much better but again- this is a kids horror and it’s appropriate for the target audience, but as an adult reader it fell a tad flat for me.
