Book: The Heir

My Perspective:
The titled was what intrigued me, as I am a reader with a fancy for royal romance story. The Heir, was an interesting read. The story began with an eerie sense, then delved into a country being conquered. Siblings being ripped apart - separated by war and hate. The struggle for power is something most men are overwhelmed with and would do anything to have, being ruthless and down right wicked, going the wrong way. I like Lucy, she was caring and saw that everyone was equal despite social status and she tried her very best to care for her subjects. Kat also stood out as she wanted to help her father from the start to save her people but she couldn't. Thomas indeed made a better king, and I hope in the other book he lived up to being who his father thought he could or was.
This is my honest perspective.
I did receive an ARC copy of this book from the Author. Reading it, I found the story to be okay just not my favorite. There is very much hope and potential, that one will enjoy. This is a recommended read for those who love the genre of Fantasy and or historical novel.

For not being a fantasy reader, I really enjoyed the elements this story had at play - medieval kingdoms at war, young princesses finding themselves fleeing their country in opposite directions, and a dark force at work to tear a country apart. There was action, adventure, and self-discovery from every angle, and the different storylines all finding their way together near the end kept me interested the whole way through.
I will say one thing that was a bit confusing at first was the frequent shift in POV because the novel is written in third person where the narrator knows everything going on and is able to tell the story from any character’s POV, inner thoughts included. There were several instances where we jump around from character to character which got a little confusing, but not impossible to follow.
I would classify the Heir as a good introduction to fantasy for the YA age, but was still interesting as an adult. It was clean language and no adult topics (ie sexual scenes, in depth descriptions of gore, etc) other than of course war, which is prevalent in the majority of the book.
There’s so much potential here for the remainder of the story in the second book, which I had to see if it was available because this one ended on quite the cliffhanger! Thank you so much to Claudia for sending me an eARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review!

With their country under attack, Kat and Lilly are ordered to flee. Kat being the heir to the throne, her father wants to protect her, but she feels a duty to her country.
Eric is the one responsible for the attack, as heir to the throne in another country. Thomas doesn’t agree with his brother’s decisions and has to find a way to defeat and stop him.
By fate, Lat and Thomas, who were betrothed in a diplomatic agreement, cross paths and have to work together for both of their countries. Unfortunately they are both wanted criminals and due to be hanged.
Will they be able to survive the wrath or Eric who is working with a dark side? Will Eric be able to take over the world as he has planned?
I enjoyed reading this book a lot. There’s a lot of action going on that keeps you interested. It is told from multiple points of view as well as from different countries.
It’s well thought out and written. There’s so much happening across 5 countries and everything works together. There’s nothing that just doesn’t make sense, which can happen in fantasy sometimes.
The characters and diverse and well developed.
I look forward to reading the next book when I have a chance to see what happens next.

This was quite an average story. The plot was predictable, characters were boring and annoying, and the writing was simplistic and sub-par. It has the bones of a good novel, but it wasn't able to succeed in fleshing everything out.
