BOOK ONE in the Dark Verse Series 

Synopsis ~

I picked this book up because I was in the mood to read a Mafia book and I had heard this book was good. This story follows our FMC Morana who is part of the Shadow Port Mafia. She happened to make these codes that can ruin their rival mafia Family which is the Outfit Mafia, who our MMC is from Tristian Caine. Somehow these codes go missing and Tristian Caine is her lead suspect. 

I LOVED THIS BOOK. There was nothing i did not like about this book, however it is written in THIRD POV so if you do not like that this book will most likely not be for you. This is a self published book, there are some grammar errors and if that bothers you don’t read it. 

This book was just chiefs kiss 💋. I loved everything to the plot to the characters. Runyx knows how to write a really good tension filled antsy romance because omg was the eye contact in this book to die for. I could literally feel the tension and eye contact through the book. I love how badass out Morana is that was really refreshing to see in a mafia book. Now Tristian Caine is EXTREMELY morally grey and a major red flag, did I still love him yes. There is 2 spicy scenes in here that are hot and heavy. The plot left me on the edge of my seat and finding out the real reason why Tristian HATED Morana was so shocking and I didn’t see coming. The ending omg it was amazing it met my expectations. This book I didn’t really expect to like but it shocked me how much I enjoyed it. This is my first 5 star of the year and I can’t wait to read more from this author.

Very dark and only the POV of the FMC. That all being said, I found it very tense and mysterious in a good way. The unraveling of some of the mysteries was very interesting. This book doesn’t finish their love story, though, so if you like one off this isn’t one.

Morana, the genius daughter of a Mafia lord, has created a super code that was stolen. Suspecting it was stolen by the elusive and lethal Tristan Caine, the only non -blood member in a rival Mafia family, Morana infiltrates his house intent on killing him and stealing back the code. But something bigger is going on and these two enemies must put their hate aside to fight it. 

I am not a huge fan of 3rd POV.  I wish this had been in 1st and dual POV, it would have been so much more interesting. 

Morana is apparently a genius. I guess this is a case of book smart but not street smart. Seeing as she is a "certified genius" and Mafia daughter, she sure makes some very poor decisions. We are meant to see her a strong and fierce, but she really isn't. 

Tristan's backstory is extremely horrific and that explains why is is the way he is. It would break most people, but it just turned him deadly. This could have made for very interesting character development, sadly he was petty one dimensional and boring. My take away is that he has beautiful blue eyes and whisky voice, as we are told 10000x. 

I thought the idea behind the plot, with the code, was interesting. But it quickly fell to the side as so many other things were introduced and made the plot super messy.

the missing girls, the impending Mafia war, the romance, escaping her father etc...

I did like Dante and Amara and am interested in their book!

Its was definitely interesting and a new kind of mafia book. Exciting to see the new developments. This was definitely kind of a repetitive book though and literally nothing seemed resolved even with more books.

holy mfing fuck that was one hell of a ride. what the actual fuck was this book? (in the best way possible) i could not put this shit down for 3 hours straight its all i've been doing pls what type of crack did runyx write this book with because it should be fucking illegal??????? safe to say im completely and utterly obsessed. with TRISTAN MF CAINE, with morana, with the plot that only gets more complicated, ALL OF IT!!!! all i could think about while reading this is that i need to know what happens next. this is genuinely the type of book i'd think about reading during the day, no exaggeration. the build-up, the tension, the slow burn all of it was fucking impeccable. tristan and morana are the epitome of TRUE enemies-to-lovers, like literally knife to throat and complete LOATHING. it gave everything it needed to give from all aspects i could not rate it any lower even if i wanted to. look up tws before reading this one and jump into it blind trust me it makes it ten times better
