I really enjoyed a lot of this. The first half had me laughing out loud and I was *very* close to giving 5* at one point.
It’s let down by the pacing in the second half - some of the drama is contrived and repetitive, and there were some platitudes that felt unnecessarily cheesy and could have been left implicit. That said, I loved Drew as a character and Chloe was entirely believable as a messy college student balancing her sense of self with her sense of obligation.
It was a fun read, I just wish it had handled some of the ~finding yourself~ moments with a lighter hand.

partially biased because I read this through a definite reading slump ... sweet, messy, and relatable to an extent as a fellow immigrant raised in a different type of community and parent types. I loved all the little details, like Drew’s moon paintings and counting sheep dressed in pajamas to fall asleep

This was sweet, but ultimately not all that memorable. Also reinforces my anti-epilogue sentiments. I liked the audiobook narrators.

Lackluster male narrator.

While the idea of 'rent a boyfriend's has certainly been done before, this refreshing take on a familiar trope was just the kind of story I love reading on a carefree afternoon. This books was sweet and fluffy and casually informative about a culture I do not know about from my own experience. I enjoyed the story and learning about dating in a culture with such high respect for family opinions and social status.

This was funny, and definitely better than “Our Wayward Fate” but I still like “American Panda” best.
