I started out as a fan of the show, and finally decided that I wanted to read the books. I enjoyed getting more of the backstories and smaller plot points that are naturally not going to fit into the TV show. I especially liked the parts with the brother at the Abbey that Claire opened up to about her journey. That said, there are a lot of difficult and triggering plot points. I was ready for them because I’ve seen the show, but it’s still hard to read (or listen to in my case) those things. But on the whole, I enjoyed the story.

I feel like this book is just an absolute mess.
She’s abused and forgives him too quickly.
The romance is paper thin. The fantasy and time travel elements were the most interesting, but it’s not really the point.
Why couldn’t we see more of the “witches?”
I don’t get it.

“You are safe," he said firmly. "You have my name and my family, my clan, and if necessary, the protection of my body as well. The man willna lay hands on ye again, while I live.”

This has been a blast. I had watched the Outlander series previously so I have a vague idea of what is going to happen. It is a 32.5 hours of worth of audiobook and I have it at around 1.7x to 1.9x speed. So I listened to this for more than half a day. Davina, the narrator, is splendidly amazing in doing her part. Her tone, pitch, accent, and everything on top was the mere reason why this had not been a boring listen. I can visually imagine what is happening and the most important thing is that I am able to know which character is speaking (but this is most probably due to Diana's writing as well).

Story-wise, it is just still as amazing as when I watched the series. I'm amazed that the series didn't stray far from the book! The love between Jamie and Claire is just undeniable. We've all been with Claire as she decides which of her two husband would she pick and I'm with her through her thought process as well!

I'm leaning towards buying Audible credits just so I can listen to the next books as well!

There was a time when I was listening to this audiobook using my airpod and my boyfriend took of one my airpod as well for a listen. Sadly, it was during the part where Claire was being raped by Jack Randall. He thought it was just normal sex between two partners and it was so funny because I had to tell him that she was being raped and she definitely isn’t enjoying it. 🥴🥴🥴

I could read this story a million times and not get tired of it. Gabaldon's story telling is so rich with detail, history and her story telling makes you forget that her books are so long. I can fall right into Claire's world, never missing a beat.

This book is way too slow with too many graphic rape scenes. One of which is legitimately torture and the author goes into DETAIL. I'm not sure a trigger warning even does it justice.

Was a decently good book, but incredibly long…it got to the point where the plot was just jumping back and forth from the main characters being happy, in mortal danger, barely escaping, relieved, and happy again before the cycle restarted.  I got a little bored, realized it’s a series of 9 books, and decided to end the book early for myself to force the idea of a happily ever after. Oops.
