The book begins relatively "innocently", with characters and themes suitable and likeable for the time period that Claire is transported into. However, trigger warnings for the last part of the book
descriptions of rape, body horror, wishing for death, torture etc. overall just unpleasant and disgusting. If you are sensitive to any of these things I wouldn't really recommend it. Though reoccurring themes throughout the whole book, the final third of the book takes it all a step further and, honestly, it's all just unnecessary as well.
I Had a pretty enjoyable read up until this point, but this last part definitely knocked off a few stars.

The author's style was easy to read but I have a view critique points:
- Why so much sex?
-
The first point connects to the second: I had a problem with Jamie, he had a few good lines and while I understand that the time was different then, I just can't agree with some things he did, because he really doesn't give her a proper choice. And the beating, no, I could not really forgive him for that even though Claire did.

-
Why did Claire have to cry so much and always had to be held in Jamie's arms to calm down?

-
The ending. I knew she would have a baby but still. Maybe it's just personal preference but I don't like the Pregnancy trope.

Dreamy

Well thought out book that was clearly researched. It did seem odd to be so long though. Such a thing has too many details. Overall the story was very well done and the characters were great.

This is my third read of the book and by far my most forgiving review of it. I’m gonna stop pretending that I don’t love this series, even with it’s many, MANY controversial subjects. It’s got everything: war, action, a passionate and all-consuming love story, endearing accents, philosophy, religion, etc. It’s so complex and Diana’s research shows. I want to try to reread/read the rest of the series (I only made it to the beginning of The Fiery Cross), but we’ll see how that goes !
