Lots of fun to read, merry adventures and stout activities all around. The old-fashioned way of speaking the characters had did seem a bit odd in the beginning, but one gets used to it.

How the Epilogue (won't spoil it) differs from the rest of the book just amazed me. It was like from a totally different book altogheter! Still, it kinda fit and was interesting - but weird - to read.

Each chapter of the book reads as a different take of Robin Hood. This takes away from any of the flow. Maybe a different version is better.

This is classic that everyone should read! This was my second time through. I enjoyed it as a teen years ago and this time as a read aloud to my two teens. It was a joy to experience the adventure yet again with my children!
Pyle writes with great humor and makes his characters very human and lovable! While Robin Hood and his band of merry men are rascals they also adhere to a strict moral code. It’s downright inspiring how they serve those less fortunate and stand up against tyranny.
Also, a common theme I’ve appreciated in Pyle’s books (I’ve also read The Story of King Arthur and His Knights as well as Men of Iron) is that each book is a celebration of manhood. In our emasculating society books like this are greatly needed! The next generation of boys/men need examples in literature on what heathy manhood looks like. I’m not talking about toxic masculinity but men who serve, who are gentlemen and who haven’t forgotten what chivalry is all about. Pyle weaves this beautiful celebration of masculinity in this book with humor, energy and wit!
I also recommend reading the unabridged version in Old English. It works your brain a bit more and the language is beautiful!

I really loved this book. It makes you want to laugh, cry, and smile. The story is slow at times but I don't care.
There is a time and place for some slower books. The characters are so loveable and unforgettable. It proves why Robin Hood hasn't been forgotten amid the thousands of legends that cover the continents.
