Been a fan of the Jedi Academy books for a while, and Krosoczka is always quality, so his taking over the series is definitely a positive. The result is a more streamlined narrative with a lot of the same in jokes and asides we've come to expect from the story. The drawback? The Star Wars stuff feels secondary (or worse) throughout, to the point where you could remove all the aspects of the property from the tale and still largely have the same story.
Overall, though, kids won't care, and that's what matters. It's a quality read for those who love Star Wars entering the middle grade reading landscape.

This was pretty fun (borrowed it from my teenage son), though not quite as good as the first collection, I think. Love the "huttfield" and other comic strips.

This blend of prose, comics and sight gags works really well for kids just stepping up to this reading level. It's engaging and fun. We discussed JJK's work on a special episode of the All the Books Show: https://soundcloud.com/allthebooks/off-the-books-spotlight-on-jjks-lunch-lady-series

I didn't love the art style of this one as much as the first.
I also found the main character much more unlikable.
I think it will get better as the series goes along.
I like the idea of getting a new artist and a new set of characters every three books.

Not as good as the Roan ones but still cute. I missed Ewok Pilot, but I liked the new characters.

I really enjoyed this book! While very short (it's meant for elementary kids), I thought it was great. Anyone who likes Star Wars would like this, and there was even a little something for the musical theater lovers as well. There was lots of advice and messages that were obvious enough for a young student to grasp, but not so obvious that it was super cheesy for me (as a 21 year old). I can't wait to see my future students read this book!

Same old Jedi Academy, different class of kids. Victor is transferring mid year after a less than stellar time at the research based campus of the Jedi Academy. He seems to make a friend right away but has he really? His older sister pretends he doesn't exist at school and it just seems he can't catch a break in school or in love. What's a Padawan to do?
