Hum.

I should have just read Misery. The trick of this book was the way this book was written. Is it the wife or is it the killer? Does the wife have a split personality? (They did say she liked to role-play with her husband.) I think once you solve those issues it all hinders on the fact that the author did not frame the beginnings of each character chapter who is speaking.

Poor.

I read this in one sitting. From the first sentence, I was hooked and addicted.
Annie and Sam move to Sam's upstate NY hometown to help care for his ailing mother. But reality intensifies quickly for Sam. Over a hundred thousand in debt, Sam desperately awaits Power of Attorney - his father having gifted his mother $2 million as an apology for walking out on Sam's 14th birthday.
Sam's psychiatry practice is taking off; his marriage seems solid with Annie, though they have only known each other for months.
The narrator is clearly infatuated with Sam - preparing drinks for cocktail hour, after Sam's last patient leaves the office, desperate for Sam's attention. While clearing out the previous owner's library, she/he discovers a vent - listening to Sam's patients divulge their most intimate issues, vulnerabilities.
Then Sam goes missing.
This book kept me guessing - I enjoyed the nod to Stephen King, and all that entails.

Twisty and fun with nothing really on the line.

The twists and turns!!!! I loved this book! Unlike the Psychological thrillers I read where the twist comes close to the end, this book had a few jaw dropping moments throughout which kept me engaged in the book! Although I loved this book, I really think had it unfolded at the end rather than throughout the book it wouldnโ€™t have been as good. Not a spoiler per-say but definitely has a slight undertone of Misery. Overall it was a great read!

The premise seemed promising so I was excited to pick this one up. The short chapters made for a satisfyingly quick read, & it did deliver a couple good twists. Some of the actions were a bit unbelievable in a way that you have to suspend belief a bit in order for it to work.

I enjoyed the first half of the story far more than the second half, the ending was a little bit...anticlimactic? It fell a little flat for me by tying things up a little too nicely.

I have mixed feelings for Goodnight Beautiful. Was it good? Yes. But did it blow my mind? Not really.

Eh?

First half is much better than the second half. The end feels lazy and rushed. Pretty predictable. People kept comparing it to misery by Stephen king and itโ€™s funny bc the author also brings up the book a few times. Idk. Like it was short and entertaining. But not worth buying retail imo. Like, If you stumble upon it at a flea market for .25 sure.
