The latest in my dive into Trump books.

The reason it gets the fourth star is that it is Woodward but a lot of it is a repeat of what's been reported by the Times and the Post over the past few months.

Hard to rate. Well written and researched of course, but you can't give 5 stars to a book about a dumpster fire.

Refreshing To Find the Journalism Lives

Woodward has set a high bar for journalistic integrity, and more than clears the bar here. This look inside the White House is both terrifying for the ineptitude of those in power, and a relief that they, too are human.

A more sober and less hysterical version of Fire and Fury, and therefore not quite as much fun. There is something undeniably addictive about observing the chaos of this Presidency, and waiting for the total implosion that never comes.

I'm stingy with five star reviews but this was a great book! I feel like I see the Trump presidency in 3D for the first time. Fans of Trump and those of us who live in a state of constant disbelief that this is real life should all read this.

The style of this book was a little bit off-putting to me; it was halfway between the halting abbreviated style of a newspaper and the literary prose I expect from a book format.

This book presents no smoking guns regarding collusion with Russia in the 2016 election or obstruction of justice. In that regard, Trump's detractors may be disappointed. On the other hand, Trump defenders will be unhappy with the portrait of a chief executive who is utterly incapable of discharging his sworn duties, due to his unwillingness or inability to listen to and understand expert advice regarding the economic and military stability of this country. A chief executive who lies as easily as other people breathe. A chief executive who came into office with several key bone-headed ideas, and will not let go of any of them, no matter how many far more intelligent and well-informed people try to correct his thinking.

I'm actually oddly glad I read the second of Bob Woodward's books on Trump first, as it's definitely an improvement in analysis and overall coverage, though this was definitely still a pretty interesting read.
