I really enjoyed this book! It took me a little while to get into it -- the first 50 or so pages were not nearly as captivating as the next 250 or so. I'm not sure if the author just needed to get into his stride, or if there were simply a lot of basic facts and terminology that needed to be established quickly, which made the first couple chapters a little bit of a slog. After that, though, absolutely captivating -- a perfect mix of hard science and approachable language that made you feel like you were standing atop the volcanoes and gathering data alongside the researchers. I have a whole new appreciation for how volcanic activity has shaped our planet, shaped other planets, and plays a critical role in the building blocks of life. Highly recommend this book!
