What in the hell have I gotten myself into? I need the next book RIGHT NOW.

I...that was so freaking good. Airbender vibes with tension so thick you could tie it in knots! Ugh. I was also really impressed, not just by Aldrick, but also by Baldair. Ugh. I cannot wait to get the next books!!

this book was good but i feel like vhalla and aldrick developed feelings for each other wayyy too quickly. like vhalla just met him and he lowk threw her off a cliff immediately after and she just FORGAVE HIM like it was nothing after he apologized once ???? what???

that was my most major qualm. i would have liked to see more of a genuine connection develop because i feel like they fell for each other so quickly that i donā€™t really see what they see in each other that much? like vhalla began feeling tension between them and ā€œunspoken words and feelingsā€ and i was like ? did u guys not just meet irl like 2 times so far

also aldrick flip flops between being cold and stoic and not really, but itā€™s more like sheā€™s seeing him as it is and that his cold exterior is just a mask. i think personally, it would have been nicer to see her break down that exterior to reach the true him, instead of just making the exterior not really accurate. but that might be personal preference. i am an angst and drama lover at heart.

the characters were good, there just didnā€™t seem to be a lot of depth to them.

overall i would say like 3.75/5 or 4/5. tbh iā€™m most intrigued ab baldair bc i cant figure out his intentions and he is so far the most intriguing character.

My first YA read in years but Iā€™m hooked

You could call this an Avatar retelling if the fire nation were the ā€œgood guysā€ and the last air-bender was a royal librarian. But donā€™t worry, the dark and grumpy Prince Zuko remains intact.

In this book, ā€œsorcerersā€ are social outcasts and must find refuge and training as apprentices for the Empire. Each magician displays an affinity for one of the four elements.

The Empire is at war against the North in an attempt to complete its conquest of the continent. Although the King is not a sorcerer, his son, the Crown Prince is the most powerful wielder of the time. Sorcerers and Soldiers alike fight against the final kingdom.

When the Crown Prince is poisoned by a North assassin, it is up to the palace healers, magicians and librarians to find a cure. Young Vhalla is an obsessive researcher and doesnā€™t realize that she is weaving magic into her work. But the Prince definitely takes notice.

The lore is interesting and not unnecessarily complicated. The pace and writing is smooth and enjoyable to read. This is a sloooooow burn (the Zutara fans get it) but your heart will be burning the whole way through.

he threw her off a roof? threw her off a roof knowing it would've killed her if he was wrong about her powers. also called her a "pathetic little worm".

considering this was not set up as an enemies-to-lovers, i am most definitely not interested in seeing how close this relationship will toe the line with abuse. peace.
