Wonderful writing. Frustratingly true yet ridiculous characters. Improper usage of a butcher's knife.

3.75-4 stars. Very unique story. Truly loved how unhinged and cringe this book made me feel. Halfway through I was “5 stars city!!!” But I don’t know if I really liked how it turned, turned, turned, and turned again. Still a really enjoyable story and can’t wait to talk about at book club :)

I think anyone who has gotten too into their comfort show, will relate to this. In a good way? No. Can they handle it? Probably not without our comfort shows. But I really do think it is an interesting look at the connections between trauma, media reliance, nostalgia, and social isolation that really resonated with me. Despite our protagonist not being likeable in the slightest, you can see how she got there and empathize, and I found everyone of her relationships fascinating. I'm still digesting the ending and may come back to add thoughts later.

Amy with Mom Advice Book Club picked this as her first Patreon member-only book club book and I'm so happy she did. I don't think I would have picked this one up on my own. At first glance this book appears to be a quirky look into this woman's life as she wins the lottery and spends some of the money in a very specific way. This is only the smallest snippet of what this book is. This book will be in my Best of 2023 list simply because of the uniqueness. I enjoyed the writing, the storyline, and the characters. I also thought the audiobook narration by Rachel Jacobs was very well done. I look forward to seeing if this author publishes in the future.

I loved talking with the Mom Advice Book Club  Zoom attendees about our thoughts on this book along with the extra bookish details that Amy found for us. Some of the attendees had thoughts about the book that I had never considered....and that's why I love BOOK CLUB!
