Very much a ‘I support women’s wrongs’ kind of vibe.

Super interesting read but also has a underlying sadness to it.

Wonderful writing. Frustratingly true yet ridiculous characters. Improper usage of a butcher's knife.

As someone who grew up watching Three's Company I have such mixed feelings about this novel. On one hand, it pays homage to a show I truly enjoyed the details regarding the show are miraculous which I appreciate. On the other than, I found the beginning of the novel to move at an incredibly slow pace and the lead character to be incredibly unlikable.

The novel follows Bonnie who is unable to move past a traumatic and dark point in her life. She takes seeking refuge in television to a completely new level by attempting to create a safe space for herself. I found her extremely unlikable and struggled to get through parts of the book where she was the lone character. Rita was my favourite character in the book, with the introduction of her character gave the novel a completely new exciting and intriguing direction. I found the book extremely difficult to put down towards the end and I felt like I needed to know what happened.

The novel is bizarre but that is part of the charm and what makes this an interesting read despite it being extremely unrealistic and far-fetched. If you are a lover of Three's Company I think this novel is worth the read but if not I'm not sure it will have the same impact.

By the description on back of the book, I thought this was going to be a comedy, until it took a sharp left turn towards VERY dark. I admire the creativity of the plot, but hit a lot of trigger points for me I wasn’t expecting and then when I googled the rest, I found out it only got darker and I bailed.

Main themes of this book are grief, trauma, and mental illness.

I think anyone who has gotten too into their comfort show, will relate to this. In a good way? No. Can they handle it? Probably not without our comfort shows. But I really do think it is an interesting look at the connections between trauma, media reliance, nostalgia, and social isolation that really resonated with me. Despite our protagonist not being likeable in the slightest, you can see how she got there and empathize, and I found everyone of her relationships fascinating. I'm still digesting the ending and may come back to add thoughts later.
