I cannot deal with the writing. Sometimes authors publish their debut novels and really wow us with their ability to write. This was not one of those times. Extremely amateurish writing and very weak plotting on top of all that.

I'm the outlier here it seems.

2.5 stars but bumped up to 3.

This was quite a disappointment. It was extremely easy to figure out who Amy's "secret" was, and even once it was finally revealed, it was a very short description and felt kindof rushed.

Also I found Jacob & Fiona soooo annoying... ** SLIGHT SPOILER** she's obsessive about him potentially cheating on her but then all of a sudden goes into labor and all is right? Just kindof a weird turnaround. And I still don't quite understand why he kept breaking into Alex's house.

Alex was somewhat interesting but I didn't love her as a main character.

Overall, this bored me a bit - shown in how long it took me to read, especially considering I started it before 2 airplane rides - and I definitely wouldn't read it again.

This was such an interesting take on a mystery novel. I enjoyed reading from the different perspectives, and I liked seeing the different relationships between the characters.

I really enjoyed this- very gripping, I read it pretty much all in one go! Some fatphobia at times, which wasn't great; also I would really have liked some more exploration of Alex's alcoholism and particularly (trying to avoid spoilers!) her third loss, which was clearly important but felt a bit glossed over. I really liked the inclusion of Jacob and his present day marital issues, and having Amy's voice both added to the narrative and gave another layer to the book. The twist & reveal were well done, surprising but also somewhat expected.

I loved the way the author revealed the story's secrets by jumping around between the past and present, and by showing the perspectives of different characters. I read through the book quickly in order to discover the truth, and was pleasantly surprised. The story of a coma victim was interesting, and made for suspense as you try to guess the perpetrator. The ending was bittersweet, but science can only do so much without a miracle.

Fast paced and flowed effortlessly.
Alex is a flawed main character who undertakes a daunting task despite her own demons, she isn’t sensationalised like many protagonists in this genre.
It left me guessing right till the very end.

I wasn't enthralled by this one to be honest. It started out with such a great promise and by the time it got to the end it just kind of fizzled out.

Amy is 15 and going out with Jacob, she loves him but is a little infuriated at the fact he blusters and gets embarrassed easily. One day Amy meets someone new, her secret. She really likes her secret and cant stop smiling when he kisses her but she hopes Jacob never finds out.

Flash forward 15 years, Amy was abducted, beaten and left for dead one night 15 years ago. No one knows what happened. Alex who is a true alcoholic, but won't admit it, stumbles on the story, while trying to get her life back and writing and starts finding out facts about what happened to Amy.

Who really attacked Amy and is she even here anymore or just "brain dead" like everyone thinks?

It was a good story and I honestly liked the way it was going but it had so much potential then it just honestly went a bit meh, I thought. There was no big ending, and left quite a few questions about what happened. Especially to Amy. Alex wass a bit whiny and to be honest, some weird reporter/writer comes asking questions and everyone is ok with talking to her. There was only 2 character that sounded of about Alex and only one that actually chased her.

I would have liked to have seen a bit more for the ending but unfortunately it just didn't grab me. Sorry
