This was pretty okay. Some of the characterization is pretty good. I like the majority of the supporting cast. I liked the appearance from The Flash. There are some good ideas. The Dr. Manhattan elements were a little forced at times, but it works more often than not. Captain Atom retains enough of his own characterization. I do kind of like the original origin better, but it isn't something that really bothers me.

The biggest problem is the pacing. Most of the first three issues needed to be condensed into one. I don't mind when a comic is a little slower than the usual comic book pace, but the first few issues of a series isn't a good time for it. It isn't until the fourth issue that we get a big display of Captain Atom's powers and the story really starts to pick up. Taking such a long time to hook readers a bad idea for a comic, especially with the intent of spreading a longer story between two volumes.

It seems like the art had a lot more thought put into it than the story. The coloring and inking is great, and I love the contrast between Captain Atom and his surroundings. I really like Freddie Williams II, and he shows a lot of versatility here.

#1-6 I really liked the story but with the exception of Captain Atom himself the rest of the art is horrible.

i liked it. the bit with the rat was well done. the "am i a monster" plot line is getting laid on a little thick. kinda feels like mid tier anime season, but overall not bad

An interesting take on the Captain, while I enjoyed it, I can see why the series was canceled after 13 issues. I really wish they would have included the entire run in one trade, especially since the final volume isn't due out until late next year.

Not bad but not amazing either. I have a longstanding love of the character. Pretty much anybody who can transmute matter at will and also rock the "alienated from humanity by my powers" card has got my vote. There are some fun nods to the other glowing blue nude-looking guy who can control the building blocks of reality (cough cough Dr. Manhattan), and the art is pretty in an impressionistic way. But the story doesn't flow and it gets pulled through the motions too quickly to make much impact. I liked the reveal of the big threat, but the resolution was meh. Probably not really required reading for anyone but the diehard Captain Atom fan.

Read at the recommendation of a friend of mine. Needed more Dr. Ranita.
