If the Mass Effect and Dead Space video game series had a baby it would be this gem of a book.

I looooooved this. The characters were dynamic and fun to read, the plot was wonderful, and the world building was spot on. I listened to this as an audiobook and the narrator was amazing as well.

Can't wait to read the next book in this series!

A good sci-fi read, that is more of a detective story than the space operas I've gotten used to. Told from the perspectives of different people, it does manage to mix the suspense given by shadowing individual characters with the excitement of large scale space battles.

Spoilerbro really realized he lost his humanity in being a cop and committed suicide over it

There was a lot of adult language I wasn't prepared for and the prologue seemed to focus an absurd amount on the female peeing/where she stored her pee. She was kidnapped and locked in a small room, so I guess it makes sense the author would want to answer the question... But if those are the details it's going to focus on, I'm not interested.

I struggled getting through this. Maybe because I came to it straight from the Three Body Problem and Hyperion. The dialogue was simplistic and the plot did not hold me. I very nearly put it down. It was not until the last quarter of the book that something grabbed me.. I’ll probably continue with the series but I’m in now hurry.

GIIIVEEE MEE ALLL THE SCI-FI GOODNESS!!!! Seriously this book hooked me from the very beginning! The characters were amazing the setting and the story added to that, and then there was government intrigue on a galactic scale. It’s literally everything I crave when I read sci-fi! This is the first book in a longer series and I can not WAIT to see where it takes me! Easy 5/5 from me. Definitely check this series out if you’re a fan of far sci-fi or if you are looking to dabble in it!
