not too bad at all. if we could give ½ stars, i would bump the rating up a bit. nesbø introduces us to some interesting new characters, and it seems/feels as though this is a new series in the works. so that is cool. my only 'yeah, but...' with this book had to do with the clunky flow. there are a lot of characters, and the plot jumps around from person to place. the transitions are not always smooth. in fact, they are rarely smooth. i am not sure if this can be attributed to a translation issue, or if this style is true to original form? in any case, it made for a bit of a bumpy read. maybe it was intentional...keep the reader on edge, off balance, to go along with the gritty, edgy story. perhaps. but the flow of a novel is important to me, so i do notice when it is a jarring experience. anyway....still a good read and i would totally read the next in the series, if that's where this is headed.

This book was thick, but it was worth the extra time.
This is the story of a convict who escapes prison and gets revenge on all of the men/people who took advantage of his youth and his addiction to cover some crimes. This is his redemption- and he is out and dropping bodies. There is love, there is page turning, there is murder. The Twin, police, moles...all in Norway.
Read if you enjoy Nordic Noir.

Maybe a little shy of 4 stars, but a great read. I still miss Harry Hole, but if Nesbo keeps writing stand-alones like this, I'll get over it. I thought the style was cleaner than in some of his more recent novels and the pacing was terrific. One of those books that keeps your attention and makes you grateful for the heft that extends the reading beyond one sitting.

I gotta say you just have to read this to understand how great and entertaining it is. I was in a crime slump, crime book after crime book, this got me straight out. You just love the characters and hate anyone that hurts Sonny. The action was done well and the twists kept coming. I couldn’t figure out the mystery, it felt very mysterious. The writing was really good and I just love the revenge story!! Yes ! I reccommend !

This is very a much a it’s not me, it’s you review. I think I wasn’t in the mood for a thriller, but I was too stubborn to stop reading and come back to this when I was in the mood, and probably would’ve enjoyed it a lot more. The multiple POVs made for such a fun narrative and made the twists and connections even more intriguing to put together (although sometimes the POV change was so sudden that I’d spend 2 pages being confused just to realize we switched POV a few pages back lol). The story was good, the characters were interesting and well written; I’d overall recommend this read but I also walked away feeling glad it was done 😬
