Not my taste in poetry. Really more telling than showing, not in a way I enjoyed either.

Not every piece hits the mark for me, but there are a lot of genuine expressions of love and loss and loss of love in these works.

"When you take a blade to your past, where do you go to bury the hatchet?"

Read in one sitting and now it's going on 4am, but this was so worth it. It put to words certain aspects of loss and vulnerability that are difficult to articulate.

The only downside is that at times, especially near the end, it becomes quite autobiographical, veering on memoir material.

Nonetheless, it was the perfect first read of the year, and I'm glad some of the poems floating around Pinterest led me here.

Another favorite poetry collection. I can't help but cry especially on poems that portray grief/loss.

In the dream you always have your hands
In the dream there is no past or future
there is just now and the knowledge that this is not built to last
