This book really had me in the first half, can’t even lie. Once it became clear that it was just a different take on The Cabin in the Woods (and after they killed off the sweet baby), it lost the majority of my interest. It just started falling flat for me. Not to mention that it reads like a YA novel, really not for me. I don’t like when horror adds love story subplots and this one happened so fast. It also didn’t make sense in the context of the story so it really didn’t work for me. Overall though, I did enjoy a lot of what was going on.

I’ll die mad about Brandon. He was so genuinely sweet and kind. AND FOR NOTHING????? NOTHING!!!!

i enjoyed the story and the characters, though it was hard not to see the similarities to another book by this author called mister magic. i'm definitely seeing a bit of a pattern here!

it was fairly obvious right away what was going on but i was kind of hoping it would go in a different direction, though i'm not sure where. the ending was very quickly wrapped up though, which sucked, and i was deeply upset about a certain character's demise (if you know, you know...). still, it was an enjoyable, fairly quick read, though i don't think i'll read any more by this author as her books are just too similar to one another!

I felt like I was missing a story. There seemed to be a lot of back story to each character that kept being sort of explored but not. That's the reason it's not a 5 star for me. Outside of that I liked the flaws of each character. I do think this story couldn't have been fleshed out deeper and made longer but it was a neat little thriller with great twists until the end.

I enjoyed this book! I loved the multiple POV from each contestant. I thought that was really clever and really well executed. I mean the team we got at the end was just unexpected but so lovable. I love Brandon and all that he is. This was a case where (unlike the last book I read, Never Lie) there was a twist that was cleverly sprinkled in before the reveal and it made the story that much more intriguing and dynamic.
The back cover tells you that this is definitely some sort of monster, but the discovery of the notebook WHICH WAS HINTED AT BEING IMPORTANT FOR A WHILE shows a twist that only enhances your feelings as a reader.
It wasn't a super deep read or anything, but I thought it was a lot of fun.

I began reading the book and almost dropped it. I was introduced to fourteen characters and I cared for none of them. Nor did I care for the way they were portrayed. Even after finishing, I am iffy about if I liked how the characters were written. At first, I was thrown off by how it was narrated. It felt like the author was trying to sprinkle exposition in for these characters when I couldn't care less about. Later, this same narrative tool became more effective as it focused in on the remaining characters, not all 14. Some characters you were clearly supposed to feel for, but I could not given how little time they had to expand those feelings. I resented that the book kept telling me how I was supposed to feel about these characters, only to feel that way about them. Just a little. I liked it much better when it was smaller groups. I cared enough about them and I felt for them. It wasn't perfect, but I appreciate what it had to say and the way it chose to say it.
