Very slow, still building a lot of the world, main characters are not very interesting yet.

this books will always hit different and where everything that you learned about the world gets thrown out of the window like nothing

Honestly, I was really mad at Sarah because of what she did with the relationship between Celaena and Chaol, but the story was still amazing

There is a lot about this book that I find clunky.

I read it and I hated it and enjoyed it, it has that junk food feeling that I enjoy when it comes to fantasy romance. Undying love, big reveals, tension, a great big wide world, betrayal - it’s all here, it just isn’t done particularly well all of the time.

What I was glad to see is more character development! And a far more interesting MC presented that wasn’t just obsessed with ball gowns or took a painstakingly long time to realize really basic things.

I’m still determined to continue with the series - driven by the events of HOSAB.

It’s a good book. It’s an enjoyable read. Is it perhaps too obvious who Aelin is? Yeah, it is. However it’s a testament to Sarah J Maas that her storytelling is improving with her novels as we compare these plot twists to the likes of House of Earth & Blood where you don’t see the plot twist (betrayal) coming. On to the next one!

I felt like it took quite a while to get to the really interesting things. I'm still committed to the series so off I go to read the next one...

Yeah. Wow. Plot twists. Ahem. Still processing. This book broke my heart twice. Almost three times. Immediately going to start HOF. I thought TOG was slow but MAN did things pick up in COM. Oof.

"Foolish enough to think, just for a moment, that she could get away with being happy."
