In a culture driven by alcohol, where every social gathering seems to be surrounded and connected to it, Sarah Levy challenges you to rethink the way you view alcohol.

In this memoir, she explains how alcohol infiltrated her life, and took over. Even if you yourself aren't an alcoholic or don't have issues with over consumption, you will find valuable lessons and insight within her story. I found it fascinating to get inside the reason of why people drink, drink to excess, and how we can reevaluate our relationships, social scenarios, and lives, to how they relate to drinking alcohol.

For someone who doesn't read a lot of memoirs, or knew nothing of Sarah prior to this book, I still felt connected to her and this story. It was well written, and a page-turning experience.

Thank you to NetGalley for the chance to listen to this audiobook. It was an honest memoir surrounding the author and her challenges with drinking. I found the author relatable. It was lighthearted. I felt the author could have shared more of the difficult times she encountered while attempting to quit drinking, but it’s her memoir. I wouldn’t suggest to use this book for an AA meeting. However, if someone wanted a recommendation of books about quitting alcohol, I might suggest this one. Mild sexual content.

Thanks to St. Martins Press for the free advance copy of this book.

 - DRINKING GAMES is part substance abuse memoir, part dissection of the larger role alcohol plays in our lives today.
- I liked Levy's point that she and many others convince themselves that their drinking isn't a problem because they can still hold down a job, friends, etc., and pointing out that not only is "rock bottom" different for everyone, but that you don't need to reach it to change your relationship to alcohol.
- I am someone who quit drinking relatively recently, and something that really resonated with me was Levy's description of how small things suddenly bring outsized joy. For me, when not dealing with the highs and lows that come with drinking, I began to find great pleasure in things as small as a fuzzy blanket or a new kind of candy.
