I just reread this book and I love it even more than I did when I read it in 4-5th grade. I wish some of the characters had been developed a bit more.. but the story is fun and I love the love!

This book is a real page-turner! The chapters flow so well, and I love the character designs. I'm not usually into love stories, but this one is an exception. The ending is so satisfying; I was super happy about how things turned out for the characters. It's definitely a young adult novel, but I think you'd enjoy it.

I first read this in sixth grade in my English class and opted to revisit it for a reading challenge.

Kit comes to the Connecticut colony from Barbados after losing all remaining family on the island. She had lived a life of luxury, so making a home in a Puritan community does not come easily. It doesn't take Kit long to meet the widow who lives withdrawn from society due to being a Quaker and therefore viewed with skepticism and criticism. This "witch" offers acceptance and safety, until Kit is viewed with suspicion herself.

Kit evolves from an outspoken, spoiled child into a thoughtful and mature individual who eventually finds love and security.
