I DNF this book. I wanted to like this story. The story has potential, but it felt too clunky. Some interactions felt forced or awkward, and some bits were repetitive. Character hopping was a bit too often and you flipped between too many characters, which made it felt a little too chaotic. You didn't just get one or two POV, you got about 5 (that's just where I got to).

This particular mystery doesn’t have the kind of twists a reader would hope. The events are all slightly underdeveloped as the relationship with the ghost and the missing jewels unfold.
Overall, an Okay read with an unsatisfying ending where everything feels simple and uncomplicated.

Got this on a whim from Kobo Plus and am not entirely disappointed.
The mystery revolved around finding out two things -- what happened to Walt Marlow and why are there people SUPER interested in Marlow House after the MC inherits it. Overall, I'd give the mystery a 3/5 mostly because the mystery parts were rather ... small compared to the entirety of the book? It felt like it could have been done in half the number of pages if they only focused on the mystery parts.
However, because this is the first book in a series, I think it mostly had to do with setting up the universe/settings/characters with the length of the story and focus on a bunch of different parts.
I gave it a 4/5 because it did have some interesting pieces that I'm curious how they move forward in the series - like.

Spoiler
Why can the MC see ghosts? How was the Missing Thorndike not a fake? What is Walt going to get into now that he hasn't left for the afterlife?

A cozy mystery that keeps you guessing until the final pages. The cast of characters is lovable, the old house is the perfect scene for a suspected murder and haunting.
