I enjoyed large chunks of this book, and I think I’m coming away with some great insights, but I definitely had some difficulty continuing once I hit around 40-60% of the book. I wish the author had spent less time going through every single minuscule detail of the two African tribes’ debt and pawn systems and more time explaining how the current system works now that the dollar is not tied to the gold standard. The former dragged on and on while the latter made my head spin. I love David Graeber, but for me the pacing of this book was its real downfall.

Challenges everything you know about economics and money. Evidence driven, compelling to read. David Graeber is my personal hero so I am of course biased, but this book is superb.
