Main theme: Spicy AF!!

I would pick up the second book just for the storyline.

I have no idea what this book was supposed to be, but it did not convince me to read the rest of the series. The world building consisted of a list of types of beings in the book. There was no plot. Who and why is the villain...? Yeah. You heard me.

I read one other Kresley book which was a contemporary about a Billionaire, or maybe he was mafia? It wasn't super memorable. I'm thinking this author isn't for me.

When I started the book I was intrigued by the premise, but this is just bad and confusing writing (the contemporary references in a medieval setting?), and I didn't know what was going on for a good while. The world building here is somewhat extensive, but you get thrown in without explanation. This can be an interesting approach when the writing is good...  but it isn't working here.

Also not a fan of the non-consensual sexual acts, and without going into too much detail, I don't think that the scenes I read are questionable consent but just straight out coercion.
Making somebody pleasure themselves or making them orgasm by force - even if you're not personally touching them - is not ok, and it's not sexy. Suggesting a "she enjoyed it" angle here is hugely problematic and was ultimately what made me DNF.

Ok, so I loved book five in this series, but this one, the one that's the start, I did not love. The MMC does way too many unforgivable things!! This is not sexy, it's gross. I can't even rate this.

It started out so great, why did it have to go to a place where the woman has her agency taken away?!?! Unforgivable.

Very thin plot. MFC personality is all over the place. No thanks.

I really liked this novella! I admit I wished he’d groveled a bit more at the end before they got back together, but they are both good people at heart and will work things out I know :)

I also really liked the FL in this, and the ML’s backstory  (though he himself didn’t have the time to develop too much sadly because it’s novella).

All in all, highly recommended reading, especially after ‘A Hunger Like No Other’.

I already knew I liked Myst, but finally doubling back to listen to her finding and blooding Nikolai Wroth was a fun little audio jaunt. I love Myst's sarcasm and wit; and also that she doesn't mince words about her growing affection for her new vampire acquisition. Nikolai, to his credit, is cut from the same cloth as Sebastian as a mate: respectful, but damned if he'll let her go so easily. I appreciated the backstory of the Valkyrie that I had clearly missed by starting with AHLNO and NRFTW. And Myst's infatuation with the Wroth brothers (specifically Nikolai) from his human life before she discovered he'd been turned as part of Kristoph's forbearer army. Also, their tit-for-tat back and forth was *chef's kiss*, but 5 years??? Myst, that's cold even for you!!
