While there were moments that fell a bit short, I found this one overall charming; played well with my assumptions, made me think and made me want to visit the place, sounds like a great place for a break.

This does a lot of different things from standard chick lit fare which made it a nice change in the genre. Also, have to love a book with a magical house - I think that's an actual rule somewhere

Another wonderful read by the talented Menna van Praag! This time, the focus is on a house on Hope Street, one that patrons can stay-in for 99 days, with the ability to heal one's soul. This story focuses on the manager of the home, Peggy, and her three guests; Alba, Greer, and Carmen. Each of these guests must overcome some tragic event, in order to become 'whole' again. Alba is faced with a life-altering revelation, in which she searches for her father. Greer is hopelessly in love, and can't get over her previous fiancé, and Carmen has committed a sinful act, which has left her pining for freedom from her inner demons. All of these women go through a variety of scenarios which give them the courage to become themselves again. I loved how the characters were given the chance to see what went wrong, and the ability to fix it in due time. I also loved how the house was 'magical', with the talking pictures, and the 'forbidden' area (in which Peggy was only allowed in). I love how Menna van Praag always incorporates a form of mystical aura in all of her novels; it keeps reading intriguing! I loved how this story concluded, and where the three women, along with Peggy, ended-up once it was completed. I could definitely see a spin-off with one of the characters in the near future!

I was listening to an audio version of this book, but I was getting confused just due to the amount of characters. I plan to get a physical copy to read because I did enjoy what I listened too already.

This was a perfect balance of cheesy, sweet with a bit of depth to it (at least for me) I ate it up! I would love to be able to spend some time on Hope street and get unsolicited advice from famous historical women!
