A slow burn with genuine moments of horror, this one really creeped me out

An intriguingly gothic horror set against the backdrop of the English Civil War. Possession, troubling sea monsters, intrigue and twist upon twist make this a very satisfying read. Characters you care about keep you reading on and the history side of things is beautifully handled. Everything seems natural and not laboured in terms of 'look how much research I did.' You never feel like you're on a guided tour. I really enjoyed this.

It wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t what I was looking for, therefore my enjoyment wasn’t as big as i expected.
