I am really tempted to give this one star but that would probably be overly harsh. I am obviously in the minority but I strongly disliked this devotional. The language was SO sappy and dramatic, the devotionals were incredibly repetitive, and I didn't always agree with the theology (which is an uncomfortable experience when you're reading something that is written to be from the perspective of God...). I definitely will not be rereading this or giving it to anyone else.

I have decided to take this book off my currently reading list as it would always be there I fear. I enjoy picking up this little book of devotions occasionally to see what the current day's reading is. This book helped me through a rough time this past fall as we were getting ready to move and my husband was gone. It was comforting yet eerie how almost every day the devotional spoke to a specific struggle or joy I was currently having. I recommend this book as a gift for friends who enjoy devotions or for yourself if you need quick reads with your morning coffee to get your mind focused on God. I have read some of the critiques about the author presuming too much to speak for Jesus but I did not get that there was anything blasphemous about the writing style. I believe that is a personal decision each has to make on his or her own with the conscious and prayer as guide.

This was given to me a couple of years ago - I usually avoid books that are so wildly popular, especially (apparent) Christian ones. I haven't read it all the way through, just a few of the devotions here and there. It bothered me a little that it's written in first-person, from Jesus, but I could overlook that as a gimmick. I didn't read it consistently because it was too feel-good, fluffy, happy-clappy for me. I prefer a devotional that is meatier, more challenging.

Recently I've seen some accusations that there is heresy in this book, the edition I have (newer versions are different), particularly a reference in the intro about how Young was inspired by a new age book, which was written using the practice of channeling. I had not read the intro until now, but it is clearly there. And she says that is how she wrote Jesus Calling, that the messages were directly from Jesus, and she merely wrote them down. This is particularly problematic because not all of her "messages" are biblical. Thus, she is either lying about receiving these messages (I had always thought she just took some of her favorite verses and turned them into a devotional) or she is receiving the messages from someone other than Jesus.

It may feel encouraging to read, but to me it looks like false prophecy.

I think some other reviewers summed it up but it bothers me that Sarah Young writes as if Jesus is speaking directly through her and that Jesus is speaking.

I've received this book on a couple of occasions - receiving it as a devotional recommendation and when I got baptized. At first I didn't see there was anything wrong, as a newer believer but as I have been able to read the Word and discern, I was able to see how flawed this devotional is. I think a newer believer may not know and use it as truth, which is why it's so important for believers to read the Word and know what is factual and what is not.

I really enjoyed reading this book this year! My mom got me a pink leather copy for Christmas last year, and I have read it every single day! I love it so much, and I love that it has helped me grow in my faith this year!

This devotional is outstanding. I have nothing to put it down on than maybe the page designs. Every page is always so relevant to the day it is aimed at and can change my mood for the better in just one paragraph. With most things, reading every night is just not going to happen but it is so easy with this. The passages are very short & even if I don't feel like reading the reference links in my bible (which I know I should!) I can always read the passage.

Absolutely amazing. I feel like I need to go through it this year, too. Very rarely did I walk away from reading a day thinking, "well, that doesn't apply to my life". I always took away a message and something to think about.

Not my favorite devotional but still spoke to me through it. Great verses.
