I must admit, I am always a tiny bit sceptical with novellas. More often than not, I find that they lack the depth that novels have, so I usually think twice before starting one.

However, this book had a blurb that I just could not pass on - novella or not, and I am SO pleased I decided to read this. In just 62 pages, this story manages to have all the things that a full-length novel has: it has great characters with depth and a shared history; it has a slow-burn (office themed!) second-chance for the friends/enemies; it has tear inducing drama and a non-rushed HFN; and it has well-written depictions of desire, longing, and sex without taking anything away from the story itself.

Great read that I imagine myself rereading over and over again.

Rush and Mikael were best friends as children until they were separated aged 12,both with slightly different memories of how things ended. Present day Rush Barron is the CEO of a multi billion dollar business and Mikael is the new assistant hired, a shock to both of them.
Rush is a hard man now, presenting a stoney exterior to all and Mikael has lost his sparkle.
I enjoyed this novella, my first experience of this author. The descriptions throughout of the characters and world around them are involving and immersive. I really wanted to nit like Rush when he was acting like a complete ass but you can see his soft centre being protected. Mikael is a strong guy, moving back across country and attempting to move on with his life after another crappy breakup. I like how he stood up for himself when needed but when he says "yes, sir" you know its going to end well.
I wasn't too sure on how quickly they both accepted their mis/non communication when they were kids which led to so much heartache for them both, and things happen at quite a quick speed but that's generally accepted on a short story.
Would definitely recommend as a quick read and will be looking for other works from this author.
I received an ARC of this book and am providing an honest review.
