I really enjoyed the writing it was definitely creepy. Loved when Amelia researched and mentioned differences in meanings of gravestone markings and other things about graveyards. It was also great to find out more of Amelia's past and the circumstances of her birth. There was alot of action and things to figure out that kept my interest. I can't wait to continue on with the series.

Deliciously gothic and creepy, amazing writing and descriptions it falls into the Gothic novel category even though the setting is modern, and there are cell phones and computers.
Amelia is a graveyard restorer with a blog followed by a selected and passionate readership. She is good at her work. And at the same time she can see ghosts. She's lived all her live fearing the ghosts and their way to suck warmth from the living.
But now rules are broken and she's discovering more secrets from her past. As a new place pulls her to unbelievable limits, she makes more and more discoveries about her family and about her relationships.
I missed Devlin in this story, but the characters from Asher Falls were intriguing and kept me interested all the way to the end.
Read if you enjoy slowly paced and wonderfully written creepy Gothic stories. Otherwise, don't.

In some ways this was better than the first book - it had more of a mystery (although it was easy to figure out). But it dragged in the middle. Amelia spent a whole lot of time running around clueless and scared. The book would've benefited from removing an hour or so of that. Thus the removal of 1/2 star. Otherwise, I liked the mystery/suspense and especially the Southern Gothic feel to the book.

There was really only a pseudo-romance in it, so I'm looking forward to getting back to Charleston and possibly some romance in the next book?

2012: Wow what a book. This is shaping up to be a great series. I could not put it down. I am so glad I have the next one to start straight away. There are still so many unanswered questions. I can't wait to find out what happens next.

I was thrown off at first at the different setting -- I assumed all the books would take place where the first book took place.

Once I got into the swing of things, I was hooked. This one might even be more creepy than the first book -- I know there were a few moments where I kept thinking "Oh, sh*t!". I really enjoyed reading this book.

The slight romance to it is okay, but Devlin, though not mentioned much is still annoying to me.

Deep in the shadowy foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains lies a dying town...

3.5 stars. The Kingdom starts not long after The Restorer ended with Amelia Gray off to restore another grave yard. She takes this particular job not only because she needs the money, but also because she thinks getting away from Charleston for a while will help her to get past the things that happened there, and help her get over John Devlin. She's in for a surprise, because this creepy little town has a lot of ghosts and one unmarked grave that she is inexplicably drawn to.

If The Restorer was a little bit creepy, The Kingdom amps up the creepiness as the supernatural element of the series rears its ugly head. Pretty much all the mystery surrounding Amelia's past and her parents is solved in this book. At first I wasn't crazy about leaving Charleston behind, but as I continued to read I felt it was necessary to the series so that Amelia could dig up her roots.

We are introduced to a host of new characters, most of them just for this book and I liked some of them. Tilly, Thane, and Sidra were all nice additions and I wouldn't mind meeting them again in later bo0ks. I also love the addition of Angus the dog to the series. I did feel like the parts with Amelia and Thane were just kind of meh, definitely a rebound relationship. We got a romantic scene that was almost just like the one in the last book, and it ended almost the exact same way too. This author seems to love writing weird, supernatural, incomplete love scenes, but I could do without them. I would say that is probably the only downside of the book to me.

So far this series has been very compelling to read, so much so that I'm starting the third book right away.

I'm beginning to notice a pattern with these books. They have a tendency to make me stay up until all sorts of ungodly hours of the night because I JUST SIMPLY CANNOT PUT THEM DOWN!

Even with my trepidation going into this one knowing that one of the characters I loved from book one wouldn't be in it at all, I was not in any way disappointed. I did miss the character, and I can't wait for them to show up in the next book, but I can totally see how it made sense plot-wise for Amelia to take this time away from all that. To try and clear her head, and maybe even her heart. And throughout the book the character is referenced regularly as Amelia contemplates her situation.

But none of that really dulled my enjoyment of the story because it was just so gripping.

Amelia is contracted to a cemetery restoration out on the island town of Asher falls. A creepier town you have never come across. Have you ever seen those movies where the main character winds up in some small town in the middle of nowhere, and as an outsider notices that there's something just a little...off, about the town and its inhabitants? Well let me tell you, Asher Falls pretty much takes the cake on that one.

There's a new little clue and tidbit around every corner and it makes it nigh on impossible to put the book down until you find some answers. And we do get a lot of answers, eventually. Especially pertaining to some of the mystery surrounding Amelia herself. But I did feel that a couple of the unexplained happenings remained unexplained. There were no concrete answers on what exactly had happened on a couple of occasions, which was a little frustrating. I can't obviously give any examples as they would be humongous spoilers, but when you read it yourself you might notice the same things.

So, to sum up, if you enjoyed the first one and were intrigued by Amelia's character and her abilities, you will love this book too. And after the last line of the book there's simply no choice left to me. I'm heading straight onto reading The Prophet right now!

This one was pretty good. I really enjoyed Amelia's adventure in Asher falls. I was kind of hoping that thane and Amelia would get together but I guess some things aren't meant to be.
