THIS BOOK! I CAN'T EVEN!

I had high expectations going into this book, not only because it is written by my favorite author, Leigh Bardugo, but also because it's Wonder Woman and DC.
I am happy to say that in the end, Diana (aka Leigh) held her head high and executed the story beautifully.

Before talking about the inside, I would like to mention how beautiful the cover is. Applause to the artist.
People always say don't judge a book by its cover, but this book is beautiful on the outside and the inside.

One of my favorite aspects of the story was the amazing cast of characters aside from Diana.
Alia, Nim, and Theo accommodated by Diana, of course, are some of the most realistic characters I have ever read.
I loved the use of color in this book. Alia being black and Nim coming from an Indian background, made the story so much better.

It just goes to show that Leigh is the Wonder Woman of writing. I will always pick up a book that she has written.

If you haven't picked this book up already, I hope the fact that it is written by Leigh Barudo changes your mind, if not I hope this review helped.
I can't make you read it, but I can continue telling you how good her books are, and this one is no different.

God I loved this book.

Do you ever pick up a book, and the first page or two has you thinking "Oh no, what have I gotten myself into?"

But then by the 3rd page you're completely hooked.

And by the page 75, your family is threatening to leave you if you don't just put that damn book down and pay attention to them already?

Yeah, so that's what this book was for me.

Here's the thing. As a woman, I don't realize how desperately I long for a female hero until I actually get one. It's like taking a sip of water and realizing that you were dying of thirst.

Leigh Bardugo took a precious and important thing, Wonder Woman, and she dusted it off and gave it back to us as a shiny new gift. This iteration of Diana is strong and vulnerable, and her friends are effortlessly quirky and likable. The action scenes are breathtaking, and the plot twists are engaging and surprising.

It was a quick read, and I was sad when the book came to an end, because I wasn't ready to leave Diana Prince's universe.

While a bit slow to get going, Bardugo delivers again - a well plotted, original twist on a familiar character and what could feel like an overused mythology, but doesn't come off that way. Diana is a complex character who is still figuring out her future and what she wants - the heritage of being an amazon, and the pull from the human world seem to have an equal call in this interpretation, but for new reasons. Alia is a character who grows with each new obstacle, and while initially you'll wish more time could have been spent on Diana's home island, it's when they arrive in New York that things really pick up. Great ensemble cast, enjoyable adventure.
