Burn was a mixed bag of emotions for me, and it’s difficult to explain why. There are many things that I loved about this book. Julianna Baggott’s writing is always amazing, and drew me in from the beginning. I think the biggest problem was I started to dislike some of the characters. We are left with 4 POV’s again, and again it bothered me.

Firstly, Pressia’s POV was still my favorite. I felt like she wasn’t afraid to look at herself and see herself honestly. Pressia wanted to be braver, but she also didn’t mind telling people what she wanted. She did question her own motives, but she because she was so thoughtful she was able to see that her motives were two-sided. She knew she was being selfish, but she also knew she wanted to save lives. She wasn’t upset or willing to change her mind, even though those two things meant that she disagreed with Bradwell and El Capitan. I liked that Pressia wanted to keep believing in Partridge, even as he proved her wrong. Pressia is the one who I felt bad for, because in the end she got nothing that she wanted or worked for.

Partridge. Oh, Partridge. I wanted to slap him in the face so many times in this book. This is where I get my mixed bag of emotions. I HATED Partridge in this book. He was weak, whining little boy. He didn’t work for anything he wanted, and he was willing to do whatever was easiest. I saw this coming in the last book, but it made me so angry. Partridge knew what it was to be outside the Dome, and yet his only concern was his own comfort. He tried to justify it, but I never believed it. I hated that he turned into that, especially because he was presented with so many opportunities, and he even had the presence of mind to question his actions. Yet he never changed his path, he always took the easy road even in the end.

I actually liked Lyda more in this book, her POV still seemed meaningless because it didn’t really add much to the story. I did like how she still wanted to be a warrior, and took steps to protect herself and her baby. Lyda made some easy choices, and some difficult ones. I felt like she was more realistic than Partridge in her choices, because she really picked which battles she wanted to fight.

El Capitan really took a backseat in this book to everything else going on, but he was still one of my favorites. He is such a tortured soul, and I love watching him grow and gain self-respect. There were mistakes that he made such as getting drunk and fighting with Bradwell, but there are also things I admired like his ability to take responsibility for his actions before he met Pressia. El Capitan and Helmud add an awesome dimension to this book, and I love how much they’ve grown since the first book.

I also thought that Burn made a great point, in the book both women were not afraid to stand up to their men. Pressia loved Bradwell, but she wasn’t afraid to tell him that she disagreed with this plan. Poor Lyda gave up everything from Partridge, but wasn’t afraid to walk away when it wasn’t working. The Mothers also give a dimension to this aspect, but they are far more scary.

The ending did leave me wanting more, but I am glad it wasn’t a happily ever after. I do wish some characters would have gotten a different ending, but I can’t say that I’m surprised or angry. I would give this book 4 out of 5 stars because Partridge’s regression and the multiple POV really irritated me in this book.

I absolutely loved this trilogy. I felt like the characters all had a nice depth to them and were not just flat. The story was capturing and kept you at the edge of you seat the entire time. The only thing I wish Burn had was an epilogue just know finish up the lives of the characters especially with how it ended. Other then that it was just brilliant.

I read this series because I had received the third and final book, Burn, for review. I cannot believe I was missing out on such an amazing masterpiece of the dystopian genre, and the whole book writing career as a whole.
Pressia and Partridge are separated again. Pressia is with Bradwell and El Capitan searching for the truth about their existence and why the Denotations happened and whether the world outside survived. Partridge is inside the Dome with Lyda, moving his father's regime and making his people accept to live with the Wretches outside the Dome. But it's not that easy. And a lot of things will happen that none of them would have expected.
The world-building in this final book in the trilogy was phenomenal. It was dense, vivid, and it felt so real, you could almost feel like you are right there, with the characters. This is an amazing feeling that not many authors accomplish.
But it's also clear that Julianna Baggott's books concentrate more on her characters and what actually happens to them. They are more character-oriented than plot-oriented. And I like that a lot. her characters shine through in this book. And she breathed new life into them. They are like long-time friends that you know every single thing about. The familiarity with the characters was increasing along with every single page, so it's really hard to part with any of them when the time comes.
The romance was beautiful. Not as much present as I hoped it would be. But the times that it dominated over the plot were wonderful. I admire love stories in hard times, they are such a great example of how humans are capable of the purest of emotions in the worst of times. The ending was something I DID NOT expect at all. When I turned the last page, I was shocked. I kept tapping on my phone seeing if i got a bad version or something. Because it just could NOT finish like that. I have to say that when I first finished this book,I HATED the ending. Literally. But now that a couple of weeks have passed, I don't hate it anymore, I just wanted an ending with more definite shape. I wanted to know what was going to happen to my characters. There were too many loose ends for my taste.
Nonetheless, I am very sad that this series is over. Because it turned itself into one of my favorites in the span of only a couple of weeks while i read all three books. I am waiting, patiently, of course, for Julianna Baggott to write her next masterpiece.

An incredible book, an incredible series.

Series often feel rushed, or stretched out. It seems like series usually have at least one (often multiple) bad books, and only one or two good ones. This one is not one of them. This series was amazing from beginning to end! I felt for the characters, stayed up until 3am, and went on a crazy ride. An amazing ending to an amazing series.

This entire trilogy was unique, but I was particularly impressed with how it ended. I often think that YA dystopias glorify overthrowing the "evil empire" without a thought for how that leaves the world or what level of maturity it actually takes to look at a world from multiple perspectives. I was so satisfied as a reader with how the trilogy wraps up and I don't get to say that very often.

Terrible ending to the series. It was as if all character development from the previous books was forgotten. Many plot points were left hanging. Had a lot of potential but failed.

Only plus was the narration. It was pleasant to listen to.

Full of action and full of so many twists. I love it. Over way too soon. Loved the series. One of my top favs. So sad it's over. I liked how the boundaries of good and bad were always in question
