This is the first book in the Midlife in Mosswood series that follows Rosie and her daughter, Maggie, as they run from an abusive home. When they find themselves in Mosswood living next to a hot Irishman who keeps calling Rosie his Witch Queen, she starts to think he has an alcohol problem. But then magical things start to happen and maybe Rosie is someone special and maybe the hot neighbor can teach her something’s to keep them safe.

Poorly written and I don't think it was edited at all, but it was a quick read while I was trying to fall asleep.
My girl jumped out of an abusive relationship and directly into a fated mates one with a guy who turned up at her house in the middle of the night all drunk and scaryđź«

A cute light-hearted paranormal romcom! Some parts were pretty silly, there were some plot holes, the ending tapered off a little suddenly. It wasn't perfect. But it didn't have to be for me to like it.

The characters are pretty easy to connect to. Rosie and Maggie are cute and enjoyable. Declan is a bit of an enigma but he has a charm to him. Despite being a romcom, I feel this book handled to subject of DV pretty appropriately and demonstrated a lot of empathy and understanding towards the subject.

I had fun with this book, and I could see myself circling back around to the next in the series someday when I want a good palate cleanser between more heavy reads.

P.S. Louisa wrote convincingly enough of US southern culture that I was surprised to discover she was Australian. That's a feat in and of itself.

Running away from a bad relationship into another? I had a problem getting into this one. I picked it up for free because it was advertised as Gilmore girls meets practical magic, but that wasn't a accurate depiction. It packed the charm unfortunately. I think more could have been done with the main character and I didn't like the way the love interest made everything about sex from the beginning of their relationship.
