Wasn't as salacious as I thought. Good New Orleans history though.

I am grateful for all of the things (work, school, trips, life, etc.) that gave this book the title of "The Book that took me all Summer to Read", because I was graced with the opportunity to become friends (so to speak) with Norma the way anyone does: with time.
It is hard to pick one quote from the book that really stood out to me, or one anecdote from the colorful, sensual, and strong account of Norma Wallace's personal and professional life. If I had to pick one though, I would go with the entire final chapter of the book. It not only wraps things up nicely for Norma and New Orleans, but it bittersweet and honest in such an optimistic way.
As an admirer of the city itself, and a growing fan of myths and legends (including the real ones) of the area, this book was the perfect way to escape to one of my favorite places in the world for a summer vacation (and without the humidity or hurricane).

*listened on audiobook* Norma's story was like something out of a soap opera and I think the audiobook narration really helped bring it to life. It was a perfect blend of someone's life story and history about a specific city and was definitely an eye-opening experience throughout the entire book. Highly recommend for anyone interested in New Orleans' history or wanting to learn more about the history of sex work.
