I started reading this book a while back and realized when he started talking about Lucas' background that I remembered very little of the early books. The novel then jumped to a flashback of Lucas as a rookie and I just couldn't get into it, thinking that I should be understanding more than I did about the people he was meeting and working with. So, I started re-reading the series at the beginning. I am glad I did. I really enjoy his writing and found myself understanding more about the relationships and how one thing led to another throughout the series.

That said, this is one of the best books in the series. I loved learning about the young Davenport and seeing how choices he made as a rookie affected the way he went about his work in his future career.

Sandford was one of my favorite authors from the moment I read his first book over 20 years ago and I am glad I took the time to relive why.

Sandford crafts another wonderful story staring Lucas Davenport. He reveals more of Davenport's character by taking the reader back to a case that haunted Davenport for years. Many authors lose steam as they continue writing the same characters in the same series, but not Sanford. This installment in the Prey series is every bit as enjoyable as the first.

I enjoyed the "flashback" aspect of the book in the beginning. It really gives you more of an idea of the bond between Lucas and his friends and his job. It also shows you why he took this case so personally and fought so hard for it be figured out. I will say, though, that Marcy hit me where it hurt.

last in the run of 21 books todate. Im ready to read something else but this was a great end to reading the entire series in a row. Great action, fun to see Lucas as a younger patrol man.

I. Love. Lucas. Davenport.

Buried Prey is the 21st Davenport book and it took a different turn than the others. We start off with the recovery of 2 somewhat old corpses of little girls. Marcy Sherrill is the head cop in charge but it turns out this case was Davenport's way back in the day, when he was a patrolman.

When Davenport "remembers" the case, we get a large portion of the book being set back in the Davenport early years. It was a nice touch to see how Lucas started and to see he was kind of a douchebag (he still IS a little but we like him more). Pre-money, pre-stable relationship, pre-detective.

The book does come into the present day to track the killer. There are some very "all-choked-up" moments in this book which really made it an excellent addition to the Davenport series.
