"We love broken, beautiful people. And it doesn't get much more obviously broken and more classically beautiful than Daisy Jones."

Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid has become my favorite book ever! It is one of the best things I have read in my life and no I'm not exaggerating. First off, its rock n roll music which is my favorite type of music, its set in the 70s, and it is just written so brilliantly I couldn't put it down.

Genre: Historical Fiction
Type: Standalone
POV: Multiple POVs, first person, past tense
Age Rating: 15+ years old

~Synopsis~

Daisy Jones & The Six is one of the most famous bands in the world when suddenly the broke up. No one knows the reason...until now. Each member of the band agrees to an interview, where they explain every event that brought the band together, how they rose to fame, and their of course, their legendary split.

“I could feel my microphone vibrating as they screamed and stomped their feet and I thought, Holy shit, we’re rock stars."

~Writing and Setting~

This is the first book that I've read that was written in an oral history format, and I loved it. I love watching documentaries so it was very easy to imagine them sitting in these interviews with broll showing their band in the background. It was quite literally like watching a movie but with words. I also just love Taylor Jenkins Reid writing style and I felt so immersed in the world. She truly made me believe Daisy Jones & The Six were a real band. I also love the 70s, though I do wish she added a few other 70s elements. But, other than that, the whole book just felt...alive.

“It’s like some of us are chasing after our nightmares the way other people chase dreams.”

~Plot~

Looking back on the plot, I realize that not too much actually did happen, but when reading it I could not tell the difference. It was just written so brilliantly that all the fluffy space just felt important and needed and I still think that it is. I loved reading about how the band formed especially, I loved Billy and Camila's storyline and Karen and Graham's storyline too. I also did really enjoy the ending and it made me bawl intensely when they officially called it quits. TJR tackled really important themes such as addictions and pulled it off in such a raw and emotional way.

“Passion is...it's fire. And fire is great, man. But we're made of water. Water is how we keep living. Water is what we need to survive.”

~Characters~

Starting off with my favorite character who wasn't even in the band, Camila Dunne (Billy's wife). She had the most beautiful outlook on life and was the support for so many characters. She was a good person and you could just tell how much she loved Billy. Billy Dunne was the lead singer/lead guitarist in the band, and he was my second favorite character. He went through so much development from addiction to relationships and he grew the most. He was written in a way were you sympathize for him while also being his biggest fan. Moving on to Daisy Jones, I actually disliked her a little bit. I loved her in many ways, but she was also very stubborn and rude at times and it felt like so many things were handed to her on a silver platter. But, I loved her will to live life as freely as she wanted and that she also strived for her dreams. Karen (pianist) and Graham (guitarist) I also loved so so much. Eddie (guitarist) also had a lot of development and his anger really was portrayed well and thoughtfully. Warren (drummer) was just going with the flow and Pete (I don't remember what he did) was just there. I must say though, this is one of the best cast of characters I've ever read about and they all complemented each other while being completely different and unique.

If the rest of the world was silver, Daisy was gold.

~Overall~

Daisy Jones & The Six will forever be a favorite. I'm already planning on re-reading it over and over and I am so ready to binge watch the TV show. This world, these characters, the writing, it will stay with me forever. I am so thankful that Taylor Jenkins Reid literally pulled into my brain and wrote the book that I was looking for all my life. I literally can't stop gushing about how good it was. READ IT.

“I had absolutely no interest in being somebody else's muse.
I am not a muse.
I am the somebody.
End of fucking story.”

I just finished the series and thought it was very good, so decided to listen to the book. This book is a testament to the saying "don't shit where you eat."

This story hooks you from start to finish from the way it’s written.

And Camila is the main character of the story, no one can tell me otherwise
