Freaking awesome! Short, but incredibly fast-paced and interesting! I'm definitely going to read the next book - I want more Hitomi and Valerian!

02/09/16 reread this in preparation for [b:Memories of Ash|17969479|Memories of Ash (The Sunbolt Chronicles, #2)|Intisar Khanani|https://d2arxad8u2l0g7.cloudfront.net/books/1458218563s/17969479.jpg|25187905]. Sunbolt is so good. The writing is refreshing, the world-building intriguing and detailed, the pace is good, and the characters are believable and likable. I like Hitomi a lot. Val is intriguing -- hope he appears in the next book.

Khanani writes great main characters. "Sunbolt" is an unexpected adventure with lots of surprising turns. The characters are diverse and well rounded. The varied landscape and society are intriguing.

Mages, a League of Shadows, Fangs, Breathers, vast landscapes, Promises. You'll have to read this enchanting book to figure out how all these items relate. Khanani does a great job slowly unraveling her secrets so you just can't put the book down.

I think book 2 would help me feel more satisfied with the way things ended. It feels like I'm in the middle of a book, so I'll have to pick that up sometime soon. I enjoy reading works by this author and definitely recommend this series.

Short but so, so good! The writing flows so well and I could never anticipate where the plot was going to end up, which is such an amazing find in the world of fantasy novels! An original and unexpected gem of a series so far!

Okay so this is literally the best thing I've ever read. After so many disappointing novels this has single handedly restored my faith in the YA genre. I've already read the second book and am now eagerly awaiting the third.. . Thank you Intisar Khanani for making this book public!
