I understand that the whole point is that the main character is ~quirky~ (read: autistic), but the way the author wrote her inner dialogue drove me nuts. Too many adjectives. And weirdly seemed like a man wrote this female character with how her body and sex thoughts were described.

Even though the character is over the top I was really starting to enjoy the romance and one or two Laugh-out-loud moments.
But then the word "Slamp" was introduced & used over & over again!!! It has really put me off & actually made me quite angry if I'm being honest!

I'm guessing a Slamp is Like a cross between a Slut & A tramp ...basically any girl that sleeps with a guy without being in a relationship.
It annoys me that authors don't consider these girls feelings (I know I know they are fictional but still)
Maybe these girls have had a rough upbringing & this is how they deal with it, or maybe they are so enamored with the guy that they hope sleeping with him might make him see them differently or maybe just maybe, and here's a crazy thought, maybe they are very busy women who haven't time for a relationship and all it entails but enjoy the stress reliever that is a great orgasm with someone who knows what they are doing.....
OK wow...rant over :)

This is not your average bodice ripping insert tab a into slot b romance novel. In fact, none of that extraneous description is present if that's your intention picking up this novel. I absolutely adore Janie, probably b/c I captured the male version of her over a decade ago and haven't let go. However, I think the book should more appropriately be titled, "Human Seeks Neanderthal" since Quinn was on more than one occasion frustratingly annoying in his pushy, hostile, somewhat arrogant, and quiet lust for the beautiful geek. Not really sure he deserves her awesomeness.

Wow, this was really dull. At first I was drawn into the story of a smart girl whos thought of as weird. I would expect most readers could relate to her in some way. But then the story carries on and on, with some very long rambling sessions of Janie's that i got bored reading halfway through. Carrying on with her relationship with Quinn where I just felt no spark between them.

I stuck it through to the end because I know a lot of people say these books are amazing. But i was left just feeling bored.

Janie was great but Quinn as a character was really underdeveloped.

I'm sorry if this is controversial, but everyone in this book was so unlikeable and unbearable, and the plot was so convoluted. Gave it 2 starts instead of 1 because I needed to finish it to see how this trainwreck ended.

Neanderthal Seeks Human (Knitting in the City #1) by Penny Reid – If you like neurodivergent representation, Janie is going to spark joy in your heart like she did mine. She gives off the same vibes as Vincent Nigel-Murray from Bones. Janie makes me wish I had my “knitting group” closer to hand. This community of women was as fun to read about as Janie and Quinn’s rather fraught romance! Enjoy the charming chaos that Penny Reid does so well! Happy Reading!

Reader seeks clarity.

Turns out, even if you start a book with low expectations you can still end up being disappointed.

There were some parts when it felt like it was going somewhere and then it didn't. It really, really didn't. And then there was some random gang crime. Seriously.
