The book felt wildly lackluster. It was recommended on tik tok or Instagram or something, I love a good camping trip gone wrong, but this one just..dragged? The characters are trying too hard to be deep, lots of weird and unresolved emotions, not really what I thought it was going to be. Pretty slow in places and takes a while for the main action to begin.

STAY OUT OF THE WOODS. This was a super fast read, YA thriller, just about what you would expect from that genre. Very poor decision making, terrible circumstances, teenage angst, and murrrrrder. I thought it was fun, finished in a day, and the speed of the plot was more movie than book-like. Would have liked to see much more of the aftermath/consequences, as it felt like only half the story. Did enjoy the author’s style and will look for her writing again.

It's more like 1.5, found a lot of it to be rather trite and unbelievable. Like, surely there would be signs of Rose's gangrene that an autopsy would recover, removing any suspicions of malice. Seemed kind of mild compared to most survival narratives, but whatevs.

This book is 70% described sex, without actually describing it, 20% pointless description of the setting and asses, 10% "plot"

Do not pass Go. Do not collect $200 dollars. Do not expect anything good or well written in this book.
Also, don't expect to care about any of the characters, they're all hopeless and gross in every sense. Expect maybe the teacher, he was kind of cool.

On a scale of ICK to WOW, this book was a resounding EHHH. Take it or leave it.

What I liked:

1. The premise. Great idea; you drew me in.
2. The ending. Kuehn wrote an ending that brought the story full circle. It was enough to induce an "I appreciate what you did there" nod. Nothing ground breaking but notable nonetheless.

What I didn't like:

1. Everything else. I have a hard time believing that with today's current school regulations that a school would allow for a group of teenagers to go climb a mountain with only one chaperone to supervise them. And what--did the park rangers forget about a group of inexperienced junior orienteers sauntering past them a day prior to a large snow storm blowing into the area?? Oh, HOW CONVENIENT.

This novel was a little to "perfect storm" of circumstances to be believable to me.

This was okay, but not outstanding. I don't feel like I ever really understood or connected with the protagonist, and he could be a bit of a dick at times (but not in an interesting way?) so I didn't really want to either- which meant I didn't fully understand or connect with the ending. I don't know, this just didn't really do anything for me.

I'm just so confused right now....

Like I really need someone to sit down and recount everything in just plain terms for me. Like hit me with that summary and explain to me what the ending was supposed to mean and honestly what the fucked just happened with... everything. Like the characters are all so fucked up and set up to be these complex characters, but like I still don't really understand how. I also wasn't a fan of the hispanic rep. I don't know it just rubbed me the wrong way.
The story kind of bored me, but I was still interested, though. I wanted to know how it was going to end and how/why he killed his girlfriend, but I've been left confused. I still don't understand what drove the characters to make such stupid decisions or the point of anything that happened was. I was waiting for some sort of revelation to happen about something towards the end and when it came it I was just like "huh?" I'm super disappointed with the ending tbh. Like super disappointed. I was hoping it was going to be more than it was. This ultimately just fell flat.
