None of the characters in this book do anything for me. The main character is the worst with too many character flaws only for it to be all tied up in an unrealistic manner in the end. Just hated every second of this novel.

I enjoyed this, it’s typical Cathy Kelly, guaranteed to entertain and enthrall from the first page. I have one criticism that it didn’t seem quite as good as some of her other books, but that is just a personal opinion I think I’ve enjoyed other plots and characters more. But this is still a steady, entertaining read, full of drama, family, friendship, basically everything you’d expect from Cathy so always recommended

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for a free copy for an honest opinion

A fairly predictable bit none the less enjoyable book by Cathy Kelly.  The Family Gift is a story of family politics, relationships, self-doubt, trauma and life itself.
The protoganist is a chef called Freya who is facing a number of problems - her birth mother of her beloved adopted daughter has returned and is planning on rebuilding their relationship. Or at least that seems to be the case. Meanwhile, Freya is also dealing her trauma from a serious mugging some months earlier. Add to this the complications of her elderly relatives .... well, life has become complicated for Freya and she is struggling to manage her personal life, on top of her professional obligations.
