Mercy (Mercy #1)
By: Debra Anastasia
Narrated by: Muffy Newtown and Zachary Webber
Length: 11 hrs and 16 mins
πEbook Read Using Kindle Unlimited)
This book, well, let's just say that 'Mercy' doesn't show any to anyone except his chosen few! He was the boogieman to all. Even mafia enforcers are scared of him.π² His face is tattooed with a full faced skull. Not everyone knows it's actually a full body skeleton tattoo, except for his 'delicate areas', they're tattoo free.π
He was dragged up until age 13, knowing nothing but neglect and pain. He witnessed his Dad physically abuse his mum until she was no-more, at his Dads hands!π‘π That same day, a miracle saved him - Rebecca Dixie Stokes told his Dad off in the shop for being mean to his son. She was a kid herself, but she didn't know to fear him. Fenix years later, with the courage he borrowed from Becca, morphed into Mercy!
He's a self taught computer whiz, who as an adult, watches out for the little girl who saved him, and his little sister Ember, who's only seen him once and probably doesn't even know who he is.π’ So when moves are made against Becca, he needs to protect her, find out who's behind it, and deal with them. Has the 'ghost of vilest past' returned!π₯
This book is so well written. I devoured it in one sitting. The only reason I'm 'not' giving it 5 stars is because of what happened during 'that' year, the one afterwards! I was really disheartened by that bit. I loved its final outcome, but I felt that should've happened a year before, when he was still 'that Mercy'!π I know it shouldn't bother me, but it did.π€·
I think Mercy's best friend, Animal, is the next MMC in this series, I'm here for it.ππΈπΎ
The audiobook is excellent. Both vocal artists do the characters' justice!π§βοΈ

βI reached toward her with my open hand. If she wanted it, she could have it. My hand. My heart. My life. She took my hand, and that was enough.β
Hands down, okay, this might be early since it's only March, but this is my top favourite read of 2022.
I couldn't fall in love with it even more.
I don't want to part from it or anything.
This book was just emotionally beautifully, like in a field under the stars shinning beautifully.
From the first chapter, I was already hooked.
I enjoyed that this was a different perspective of an abuse story where the victim is a man.
Although the plotline focusses on the relationship of Nix and Becca, it was really Nix's story and very refreshing.
My heart really tore just from Nix's personality, history, thoughts, emotions, and his love for the people he wants to protect, and especially Becca.
Reading his character development and his feelings for Becca was something so vulnerable and precious that you could feel the love he had.
I enjoyed that with Becca. She was the hero; she was the strength that binds everything together.
They balanced the pacing of the book out, the different POVs and just enough of scene time for the side characters.
P.s, the side characters are funny, I think there is a story for Animal so I will get into that.
Everything has meaning, and whatever question that we had in some scene, everything will come full circle.
It gives out a very satisfactory storytelling to a reader in making sure every box was checked, every character had their development and the plotline serves the purpose of the intention of the first chapter.
AMAZING, BEAUTIFUL, BRILLIANT, READ AND I LOVE IT SO MUCH!
βYou are my heart and this is the first time I've ever thought it was worthy of a beatβ
