Love this book. Can not get over the character development. The plot twists are absolutely amazing. Can not wait to read more

I have to be honest, I just wanted this book to be over. The drama, the on again, off again, the possessiveness, the arguing, it all just made me roll my eyes and want the end to come quickly. I was sucked in at the beginning, there was some promise to the plot, and an air of mystery, but for me, it went downhill from there.

So I'm not oblivious to the fact that this novel has its own set of issues, and probably doesn't deserve the rounded-up 4-stars, but I honestly still enjoyed it enough despite its problems, that I wanted to up-rate the 3.5 instead of downgrading it.
In this book, the heroine, Summer, is moving in with her half-brother whom she has never met before. The whole start of the book sort of deals with her opening up and accepting her new life getting to know her brother and father without prejudices. Of course, her family is keeping a few secrets that cause a little havoc and throw a few wrenches in Summer's life.
One of these secrets (naturally) involves the hero, Reid. Throughout the first of the book, it is hard to get to know him (for the read and for Summer) because he fluctuates his feelings so much. He struggles with himself about whether to pursue anything with Summer. Eventually, he decides to just go with it and the rest of the book we watch them fight to work their relationship out.
One of my favorite parts of the book was the cast of supporting characters. That is probably going to be m main reason for reading more books. They were very fun and witty in this story. And in true Chantal Fernando fashion, this cast is littered with super overprotective guys that surround Summer's life.
I had a few big issues with the story. I guess overall, it just didn't seem like a balanced story. There were weird maturity issues and hypocrisies, not to mention a few conflicts that materialize in the book and never get resolved.
Just about all the characters went through a phase for me where they just didn't act consistently. They (in my opinion) bounced around between being unfairly angry one moment, to extremely
considerate, to overly immature.
Then there were numerous moments where I look back at certain things in the book and wonder what happened with those issues. It just seemed to disappear. I suppose this is realistic to the real world, but it super confusing in a book. For instance, Summer's first day living with her new brother, she goes to the grocery store, refusing any company or help. But after she leaves her brother follows her there in a protective gesture. This all seems like foreshadowing, but there is now satisfying moment of clarity where the overbearing tendencies prove necessary. In hindsight, it just seems to be a product of Chantal Fernando's habit of wanting excessively overprotective men.

I’ve read a bunch of Fernando’s MC books. This was different. A young woman moves in with her estranged brother and father and although they are bikers, that’s not the centerpiece of the story- instead it’s about an underground fighting ring. Her brother and dad’s friends are hot but it’s the one who treats her worst from the start that she just has to be with.

The book was readable but I just don’t buy into them as a couple. He’s horrible to her but she likes him. They are not together but him calling her ‘beauty’ means so much to her. He sleeps by her but won’t explain the women he has around him. Then of course there is a major plot twist- and hen it gets untwisted. The other woman is a nightmare and okay. It just reads unevenly. With enough drama for two books at least.

And for some reason it feels like a knock off ‘A Beautiful Disaster’.

god another terrible book where the male mc is all "oh i'm gonna have sex with whoever i want" but the minute they find out that the female mc has had sex before being with them it's suddenly "oh so you're a slut. i'm gonna kill that guy"

reid is a horrible character not only because he had that "macho men, i do what i want" personality but also because he tried to excuse his cheating on other problems that had NOTHING to do with summer.

ryan is another horrible character. he would go from cute friend to weird guy who makes sexual jokes towards his brothers gf.

summer is a pick me girl that tries to have a tough personality and likes to talk but won't actually do anything. she also reminds me of a middle schooler. anytime she saw reid talking to a girl she was like "who the fuck is that. i'm gonna fight her. stay away from my cheating man" so dumb
