This book had the authority of a legitimate guidebook, the aesthetic beauty of its photography and eye-catching page design, and the ferocious gentleness of vulnerability and radical imagination. To call it a mere "delight to read" would undermine Summer Michaud-Skog and the Fat Girls Hiking ambassadors' expertise in both outdoor recreating and storytelling. Lulled into a technical stupor by practical advice on how to pack for and navigate a trail, I'd turn the page into Summer's or an ambassador's journey in their fat bodies. Every page was a reclamation of fatness and the writers' right to exist in nature just as they are. It was also an eye-opening read for me as a straight-sized person who does not have to navigate a size barrier in order to recreate.

Fat Girls Hiking serves as a guidebook and a manifesto – and not to mention, as a fine addition to one's coffee table.

I fully plan on buying this book once it comes out- It's really just what I've been looking for. I love being active, but, it's hard to see myself as an 'active person' when the rest of the world seems so convinced that I must never exercise because of my body type, and that in turn makes me nervous to show my face in active spaces.
This book has personal essays as well as reviews of trails- a great resource as well as a way to see myself. I love how it also brings up the barriers of race and ability as well- with solid advice and encouragement to get out there even if some others may not want you.
The photos and layout of this book are also lovely!
(Also- don't worry- despite the review below me saying the book refers to 'the women by the pronouns they prefer to go by' this book does not refer to nonbinary people as 'women')
